I think this looks like the final build. Any last opinions or suggestions?

My friend's budget is around $550. It has to be a Shuttle PC and it has to have AGP since he has an ATI Radeon 9800PRO. He also has hard drives he can use for this system so he basically needs only the motherboard, CPU, and memory. He would also like to add a DVD-RW to this system.

Is there a cheaper place to buy any of these parts or do I have the best price to California?
 
Looks nice if that's the route you want to take with the case and Mobo. Great CPU and Memory you have chosen, the optical drive you could go with an NEC drive, those are also excellent drives.
 
You could get a sff case and a matx mobo. It'd likely be cheaper.
Like an aria or x qpack with an msi rs480 skt 939 mobo.

Hmm. That case + mobo is $100 less than a shuttle, so there's $100 for a pci-e card, or the motherboard has onboard video. I can't find any 939 agp matx mobos. I wouldn't go 754 now.

This is better than what you listed and what the hell...why wouldn't he want a dvd-rw. It is cheap and doubles as a cd-rw and dvd-rom. if you need a few more $$ for a case or something, switch to the 3000+ Venice. The Antec Sonata II is a great case with a great power supply for $136 shipped.... **NOTE** All of these prices include shipping..I added it in 😛

I think that Aspire SFF looks ugly. It may have nice features but it looks really bulky and seems like they tried too hard to fit everything in it. It is nice an cheap however.
 
His budget is already pretty small so I would suggest he rethinks what he wants. His money could be better spent.

He simply wants a SFF, is there a problem with that? Its like telling someone who wants to buy a laptop to get a desktop or a MAC a PC instead. They simply aren't the same thing.
 
He wants SFF (Small Form Factor), Bucks.

Go for the 3000+ because you're on a budget. The Corsair ValueSelect is your best choice for RAM. All the other stuff is fine, AlphaQ. I am also in limbo about whether socket 754 is really all that bad. Sure you can't upgrade, but if you're on a really tight budget, it's an acceptable way to save money, IMO. Could be wrong though.

I thought he wanted micro atx. Isn't that what sff means?
I don't like proprietary parts, so I dislike shuttle(and others like them).
If a shuttle board goes bad how much does a replacement cost?

Why not order the parts from a different retailer? I am sure there are some that are located outside of California. I believe monarch may be.

I calculated the difference between Monarch and Newegg and without tax on Monarch it is still more expensive for me.

That $119 is a hot price but I feel safer getting a Retail chip for my friend for the 3 year warrenty.
