Bought this combo from newegg and it doesn't boot. Fan spins for 3 secs and stops. Have stripped it down to just mobo CPU and ram sitting on cardboard box and jumped it with screw driver. Same situation.. Have moved ram around all slots and still no luck. Any thoughts?

Am using a corsair cx500 for power
Thanks

I believe that's Pin 5 which is just a ground and isn't required since there are other grounds.

Have you tried to jump the PSU manually to make sure the PSU will stay on?

Make sure the CPU is supported on your bios, newegg has sent out combos before that needed a bios update with no way of flashing it without a spare processor.

Haha hum guess Ill go look for molex connector but I am getting a sinking feeling that mobo won't support without firmware update. Fml..

I usually just paper clip the PSU connector if I don't have my tester on hand. Do you have any cheapo processors you can borrow from a friend to do bios update if that's the case? Not sure on MSI but sometimes they'll have the ability to pull bios from a rom on CDROM like they would at factory service if someone bricked it.

That's a newer gen chipset with a slightly older CPU, compatibility shouldn't be an issue for it, the reverse however can be.

That being said:
1. Jump test the PSU, that model should spin its fan if it works constantly so no fan motion = dead PSU.
2. Make sure you seat the power connectors into the motherboard firmly, and check for the power on LED that's usually on most boards. If there's no LED lighting up anywhere on the board, most likely board is shot but go ahead and make sure the CPU and RAM are also seated correctly and try to short the system on.

It's probably some little something you've overlooked.
Disassemble everything (pull the CPU also), and take another run at it... slowly, step by step.

Will do that today and see. The 4150 isn't listed as a compatible CPU on the msi webpage so I suspect it's needs a firmware upgrade. I'll post results when I get them.

Did you plug in both power cables? The ATX and the ATX12V?

Doh. Didnt realize the 8pin splits into 2x4 - couldnt find a 4 pin so assume it wasn't necessary.

Let me try tonight T__T

Lol! Sometimes it's the easiest solutions. Don't worry, we all make mistakes at one point.

FYI, don't plug the PCI E plug into the 4 pin on board (or vice versa).
