Hi Everyone

I just setup a new workstation with the following hardware.

The system is not getting through to post and it will give me a memory error code in the OLED display on the motherboard. Code 00 to be specific.

I have reseated the ram, the cpu, and I've even powered up the machine with no ram installed, and yet I am getting the same error code on powering up.

Is this a ram issue? It does appear that the ram I've purchased isnt "compatible", I bought a kit and I need 128+ gigs of ram due to the work I do.

Any insight on this would be wonderful.

Best.

I once had this error on an x370 board using and older Samsung M.2 SSD. After switching a bios setting from UEFI to Legacy it allowed to post properly. Only figured it out after booting the system without the M.2 drive. Once I diagnosed it was the drive, I started going through the bios settings and eventually found the problem. I'm not sure if the error code is the same for TRX40, but might give it a try.

It doesn't sound like OP is able to access the BIOS; the power on self test is showing the error on the board's LCD. The system typically doesn't care about drives until it wants to boot an OS, and will typically run fine until that point.

OP, are you getting any video on screen or simply nothing but the error code when the PC is started up? Have you double-checked your power cabling?

When I had this error I couldnt access bios either until I uninstalled the M.2 SSD, then it allowed the board to get into bios settings.

I would suggest the OP remove the ssd and see if he can then access bios. Could be hit or miss, but at least it would rule out the ssd causing the hang up on post.

Maybe a stupid question, but this has been a problem in the past. Do you have BOTH of the 4 and 8 pin (or 8+8 pin) CPU power connectors hooked up ?

Hi All

I have tried switching out the ram sticks around. Ive attempted 1 stick, 2 sticks, 4 in different combinations.

Im gonna try removing the m.2 slots next.

I do have both 8 pin cpu power connectors in place.

I will see if the ram sticks work in my current system just to rule out the ram sticks.

I also spoke with Asus and they mentioned that the sticks arent "compatible", are threadrippers really this finicky with memory?

Appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks

Update to this, RMA'd the motherboard, ordered ram that is on the QVL list and I am still getting the same error.

The memory I purchased is the one listed below.

Any thoughts?

The motherboard says that it is the DRAM (QLED is showing a yellow light).

Any wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

RMA / return or purchase another set of very cheap ram thats not corsair. ( i always hear of amd issues with corsair but never had any issues myself with corsair / amd)

Well damn..... kinda caught between a rock and a hard place if thats the case.

Im gonna see if its the proc tomorrow. The Asus support agent said that it could be a issue with the cpu...... dunno how much weight I should be putting behind that to be honest.

The odds that its the CPU are very low. It the motherboard or memory. Since you are on your second set of memory, that would put the finger on the motherboard as the most likely problem.

The motherboard is also new. I returned the previous one and was sent a new one by newegg.

So new ram, new motherboard...the only thing thats left is the cpu.

I am definitely feeling an aversion to Asus now.

Ive dropped the processor off at the store i purchased hopefully they can at the least confirm that its not the problem.

Installing the processor on that motherboard is not easy. There is a possibility you bent some socket pins.

00 is not memory, its bad cpu. Check your cpu mounting. And...

I highly suggest ya stop buying Corsair memory on AMD. Corsair on AMD is a bad combo no matter what Corsairs says. I just built rig below with G.Skill F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN. I actually stuck the dimms into a Ryzen board to run dram calculator, so its running relatively tight settings too.

Seems like it’s the proc I sent it back to the store and they are saying that it’s doa. Getting that exchanged and bought a set of memory from gskill. That exact set actually.

crossing my fingers!

Merry Christmas all.

I doubt its the CPU. Most likely, its the MOUNTing of the CPU. Threadrippers are very tough to put in. If its not perfect, you will bend the pins on the cpu socket, and thats not easily if at all repairable. And you get the exact things you have said here.

I am looking and have looked a couple of times at the pins nothing seems out of whack there, its definitely not the easiest thing to see since there are so many there. But I've ruled out the motherboard and ram for now.

I was curious again tonight and looked at the proc and noticed a scratch on the metal pads on the underside.

This might be the reason.. I mean I would think a scratch like that would cause some issues.
