Hey guys,
I built a dedicated audio machine a few weeks ago with the following specs:
Asus P5K SE/EPU Motherboard
Intel Q6600 Processor
Corsair XMS2 CM2X512-5400C4PRO RAM (4x512MB, 675 MHz) (older, got it from a friend)
Seagate Barracuda 250 GB HD
e-GeForce 7950 GX2 Video Card (also a little older acquired from a friend)
SIIG 2-port Firewire PCI-e card (for M-audio profire 2626 firewire interface)
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W Power Supply
When I initially built the machine it wouldn't get to the windows setup screen due to some kind of USB power problem.. turns out ASUS frequently ships Mobos that are missing jumpers causing power problems. A trip to Radio Shack fixed that problem and everything seemed to go very smoothly from that point on.
About a week after the build, one day the monitor just lost signal. The system didn't shut down or reboot, the monitor just stopped getting a signal. I Reset it and everything seemed fine until about 4 days later, while the computer was playing music from itunes, the screen froze. I reboot, the system freezes at the ASUS startup screen, reboot again, system freezes at windows startup screen, reboot again, monitor doesn't get a signal, reboot again.. no signal again. I waited about a half hour and turned it on again. This time it brought me to the screen you're supposed to get after you update the bios where it asks you if you want to "recover" or "load default settings". I loaded the default and it booted to windows. The time and date were reset and windows forced me to activate even though I still had something like 18 days left to activate before.
Anyway, I went into pro tools and after about 40 minutes, another freeze. I figured the bios might be corrupt so I updated to the newest version. Booted back up and this time after about 15 minutes it restarts itself and freezes at the ASUS startup screen.
At this point the only thing I can think of is a bad motherboard, or possibly compatibility issues between the mobo/RAM or mobo/video card. Any ideas??
Thanks,
William
