I have this list of components for a future build that I would appreciate any suggestions as to whether this would be a good build for general web surfing and no gaming.I know the power supply might seem like over kill but for the price thought it would suffice.I have a Windows XP Pro disk that I can install also. Thanks

What's a floppy drive?

If it's for general web surfing, drop that CPU down to an Intel E2140 or E2160 or the likes, you'll not notice any difference. They're all relatively high-end dual cores as far as general desktop office use is concerned.

If you fancy some more storage, you could consider the WD 640GB Caviar, as it's a high performing drive and has a lot more space than that 160GB to boot. If you're not downloading or ripping stuff you may be okay with the smaller one, though.

Get the cheapest RAM you can get; any DDR2-667 ValueBrand type stuff will do.

As far as I can tell that all looks fairly good. Case is a matter of personal taste, I guess :p.

If you have to fill an exsternal 3.5" bay then put a card reader in there not a floppy. If you must have a floppy for whatever reason then get a floppy card reader combo. Then take all your floppy disks and put them onto a CD or SD card.

Well I have been using a 120 Gb HD for three years and it still shows 100 Gb free space that is why I thought 160 would be plenty for what I do even if in the future I decide to do a little music. Also the intel 2160 and 2180 have 65 nm with 1Mb cache vs the e5200 with 45nm and 2 Mb cache.with the price difference of around $20 for the E5200 I think I will go with it.Will go with the combo reader which includes a floppy.I was looking first at the Raidmax Scorpio 868WUP with 450W power supply as a cost factor but read that most are not good.that is why I looked at the Xion and the seperate Corsair 450VX power supply. The listed memory seems like a good choice for $14.00.Being a newbie these are just my thoughts.

I was just looking for components that I would not have to change any timings or voltages and trying to stay under $500.00. I have a monitor, keyboard, speakers.I also have a windows XP Pro 32 bit OS which I think will work with the following list.If everything looks good I would like to order tomorrow to take advantage of the rebates.Any other opinions on the list would be appreciated since it is not for gaming remember. Thanks

If you're ok with the E2180 you could drop to the E2140 if it'd save you enough cash to bother with.

If you don't want to have to change timings/voltages, make sure you buy RAM rated for 1.8V operation. Generally that's not the case, although they do have a few 1.8V offerings.
