New build ready, Just need mobo.

I have a new build ready, the only thing im missing is the motherboard, I want a good overclocking board, but nothing over 150 bucks. I dont want any nvidia boards. I would prefer anything around the P35, and the 965P chipsets, heres the specs of the rest


Gigabyte Geforce 8800gtx 768M PCI-E
2x Hitachi 320G SATAII HDD's
2x Lite-On DVD-RW 2m cache SATA burner.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (not sure if B3 or G0 yet)
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
RAIDMAX 630W Psu with 18A on 12v1 and 16 on 12v2.
Running on a 22" Widescreen 1680x1050 Res.
2x 1G Wintec AMPX DDR2 800 Ram w/heatspreader and cooler (generic 2 fans)


I was thinking the Gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 Rev 3.3 Motherboard I have, but with the core 2 quad I dont think i could overclock like i have my core 2 duo (7x 440fsb). So I would like all the input anybody has, Also just wondering, will that 630w psu be able to handle the 8800gtx or am i in trouble with that? Also anybody who has a c2q and a good oc please tell me your setup and how you did it.

Well under 150$ you don't have that many options. Generally, boards like the Gigabyte P35 DQ6 are great for maximum quad core overclocking, because it has a 12 phases CPU power supply, which is great for quads, and leads to almost no Vdroop with duos (I don't ahve any Vdroop on my DQ6).
The MSI P35 Platinum is a nice board, at 159$ -15$ rebate. The Gigabyte P35 DS4 is also nice, but to expensive at ~185$. Another option is the Abit IP35 at 149$, all threee are solid boards.
Whichever board you decide on, I'd get a board with a heatpipe that also cools the PWMs, because quads draw quite a lot of power. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813127029

And that Arctic Freezer is a terrible idea if you plan on overclocking, wrong place to save money. Get at least a Scythe Mine Rev. B or better yet a Scythe Mugen/Infinity or an Andy Samurai.

IP35-E is $70 AR (MWAVE). This is a 500MHz FSB board. One member was able to post and run 1M SP at 4.0GHz with this board and Q6600.

Step up to IP35 if you want RAID. I prefer a separate RAID card over any on-board RAID.

A scythe infinity is smaller than a freezer 7 and the fan spins at much slower speeds..... the freezer spins at 2500 and the infinity spins at 1200....give and take 10 percent. I dont really see how the freezer 7 is a bad idea, it keeps my core 2 duo at 3.10ghz (7x440) at about 33 degress celcius all the time. and it never goes about 55 celcius even under orthos running 100 percent over 24 hours. I have a feeling that the infinity isnt that great compared to the freezer 7.

If this freezer is a bad idea, I would like a cooler that doesnt face the fan spinning at the cpu. I would like one like the freezer 7 or the infinity. Anyone send me the link for the best one they can think of, but not something that costs too much. about 30-45 dollars.

The Scythe Infinity is currently the best >50$ heatsink, the only ones that are better are the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and the IFX-14.

And your CPU is certainly not at 55° C load, thats the temperature of the heatspreader, not the core temperature. Donwload Coretemp 0.95.4 to see the real core temp.

That is what core temp is telling me. the Tjunction is at 85 and the others are at 55. I do use core temp. Intel's TAT even tells me the same thing, along with a hardware monitor program i got with the board: easytune 5 says the same as core temp and TAT.

DFI Infinity Blood Iron is supposed to be a really good board. But the IP35 would be cheaper and likely give similar results.

Yeah that actually was my second choice. But since i got some more money from my rents i decided to go for the "high-end" boards. I consider that board to be high end too. But i figured its time for me to stop running with the off brand stuff for my setup. This last setup is the closest ive gotten to having name brand stuff in my computer. I used to be using like generic fans on my cpu cooler that i had gotten from my school that used 533mhz E-towers which werent exactly heavy duty. but this last build i got to use a AF7Pro and a gigabyte board and some nicer stuff too.

Which version do you use? Teh temps taht 0.84 reads out are around 15° C too low. And Easytune reads out the heatspreader temp as well, and the Intel TAT is also know for often showing the wrong temps.
55° C is too low considering that is about what I got with my lapped Infinity at exactly 440x7 at 1,36V.

I am using 0.95 right now, atleast thats what it says in the About tab in the program. I dont think that all 3 programs i use would be wrong. Even a program called systool reports the same temps as TAT, ET5, CT too. So im pretty sure that these temps are right, especially when the cooler is colder than my room temperature. Even in the bios i get the same readings as these.

Well, it shows the same thing all other versions ive tried. And no one seems to believe me. Well ive used every program people tell me to and they call come back the same temps that the other programs show, so im pretty sure that my temps arent wrong.

Based on the info or lack of from the OP, this is a ludicrous statement. The Freezer 7 is an exceptional price to performance ration HSF. For extreme over clocking?, no. but for moderate over clocking it is plenty good. (and $22 to boot) If the OP had said he wants the best HSF as he is taking his CPU to the limit, only then would you have been on the mark.
