new build OS- vista or windows 7

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but I'm building a new system and need to get an OS for it. Now with Windows 7 coming up (prob next year) and RC supposedly coming right around the corner, do I install that or just get Vista home for now?

From what I'm reading, Windows 7 is still buggy but people have been saying that it's pretty solid? If I were to get Vista Home Premium 64 for the time being, do I just get the regular one or the SP1. Or can I get get the SP1 pack via update?

Thanks!

Yes for Vista you can get the service pack via Windows update. Personally I'd run 7.

You need to do some research to see if all your hardware and software will work with Windows 7. If you can't find any major compatibility issues, then Windows 7 should be very stable. If a vital piece of hardware or software doesn't work, well then, Windows 7 will be quite useless to you. If money isn't an issue, buying Vista now is a good plan. You may end up loving it and see no reason to upgrade, but I think most people on here will agree that Windows 7 is the better operating system.

Just be aware that Vista is a production OS with 2 years of updates and service under its belt. Windows 7 is still pre-release status.

Yep. I dual boot both and I still prefer Vista.

I run both and like them both. That said I run Vista daily as itunes doesn't get along with 7 completely. It will sync audio fine but not video.
