Please, a little more info. What other components do you have? Have you tried a minimal install with the MB outside the box? Have you checked your connections? Is the HSF properly installed? Help us help you by giving all the info you can. Welcome to the yellow brick road.

I have it to where the fans just spin up and everything shuts off with no beeps. On the modular PSU i had the pci express power plugged into and auxiliary port on the PSU instead of the pcie, they are the same shape... kind of dumb. Well I pulled the vid card out and it still only spins the fans up and then just dies.

So, take the MB out of the box and make sure that both power cables are connected. Then, make sure the CPU fan is connected. Then, put one stick of ram in the first slot. Then, make sure the 6 pin or both 4 pin supplementary power cables are plugged in to your GPU. Then try booting into the BIOS without HDD or anything else attached. If no joy, try a different stick of ram in the first slot and repeat.

Do i need ram in it? Right now I pulled everything out of it. Its only the mobo connected to the psu and its the same story. CPU and PSU fans spin up for a second with no beeps and it shuts off... If I plug in the vid card without the power connected I get 1 long beep and everything shuts off.

As I said, try one stick of ram in the first slot. Did you check the other connections I mentioned?

Yes I did, well before I had the drives unplugged and only cpu and psu fans would come on. I plugged in the HD's and when I powered it on the case fans came on also and the hds started to spin up. There still is no beeps and it shut itself off after a few seconds.

EDIT: I plugged in the vid card back, everything stays on now but I get no vid or no beeps of any kind...

Sounds like the HSF may be improperly installed and the MB is shutting down to prevent damage from overheating. Or, you just need to try a different single stick of ram in the first slot.

Does mem have to be in slot 1? I have to use 2 4 or 4 because of the over sized heat sink.

Also once this thing powers on I cannot shut it off with the power switch, i have to unplug it for it to reset.

Yes, with one stick of ram it has to be in slot 1. Two sticks of ram have to be in slot 1 and slot 3. If your HSF will not fit without blocking the first ram slot, you have the wrong one for your MB. If it's on long enough for you to tell that the case switch does not turn it off, that sounds like a short somewhere. did you take the MB out of the case? What HSF do you have? Also, how are you using 4 sticks of ram if the first slot is blocked?

Well I tried 2 different memory sticks in slot 1 with the same symptoms, I have also tried a different vid card and it just spins the fans up and HD's but no beeps and nothing else. Could it be the mobo or CPU?

I feel like we're talking on a bad connection. :) Were you able to install the HSF without it blocking the first slot? What HSF do you have? Did you try to boot to bios without any HDD's attached? Have you tried the other two sticks of ram, one at a time, in slot 1? Did you take the MB out of the case?

Its a CPU FAN ZALMAN | 9500A , after I reversed the position of the HSF I was able to put memory in slot 1 and I tried 2 different sticks with no luck. If I disconnect the drives the system just chips 1 time (not a beep) and doesnt power anything on. With the drives connected it powers on all the fans and HD's but again no beeps of any kind. I have not taken the mobo out of the case.

The reason I suggested taking the MB out of the case was so that you could eliminate the possibility of a short occurring between the MB and the case.

I used all of the necessary risers but I guess I could try that when I get home, the strange thing is that the mobo doesnt make any sound except if I unplug the power from the vid card, then I get a continues tone and the system shuts down. If the CPU was bad would it try to POST at least?

No, the system would not post if the CPU was bad. It would also not post if the ram or MB was bad. When you reattached the HSF did you clean and reapply a thermal compound? And you do have both the 4 pin power connector and the 20 pin connector plugged in to the MB?

Yes 4 and 20 pin connectors are plugged in, if I unplug the 4 pin the mobo will not turn on. HSF was put on properly, I really hope its not the CPU because newegg is out of stock on those. Are you familiar with eggs policies, do I just RMA both pieces or should I do the mobo first if I cant get it working today?
