What's it for? Gaming? If so Intel == bad choice. Otherwise it's alright. This really isn't an Intel friend site.

I would definately nix the truecontrol 550w. Totally unnecesary.

Welcome to the Forums. Enjoy your stay.

I only choose the 550 because it came in a packaged deal, but if I could save some bucks, what's a good Wattage to drop down too and still be viable for the next 3-4 years? would 400W do it?

Keep and eye on the Hot Deal forum.

I paid $75 for a Seagate 160GB SATA HD from Fry's two weeks ago (after a $40 rebate).

In the Hot Deals forum people post deals on HDs all the time.

Bottom line: I think you can get your 120GB Seagate SATA cheaper than $91.

Good luck!

Also, if money is really tight, you can save about $100 by dropping down to a GeForce 6600 card. I bought the Leadtek GeForce 6600 for $109.

I'm told you can easily OC these cards to 6600GT speeds, but I have not got around to trying that yet.

And I agree with Ribbon....find a cheaper case/PSU solution. I went with an Antec SLK2650-BQE myself. It comes with a 350W PSU that's their "quiet edition". The case is almost identical to the SLK3000B, but the PSU is included. I paid $40 after a rebate.

$239 for Case and PSU? Man.. I'd get a SLK3000B and a Seasonic S12-600. <-- Very very quiet setup.

There are better deals on fans. ugly but ultimate in silent

Why Intel? Are you going to be doing any video encoding? Gaming?

aweesome case, got one for my current rig. so quiet

I havn't used that fan, but I got this one from Compusa. I was surprised to find a nice one like Techie Toyz FanMod 120mm x 25mm WhisperFan

60 Cfm at only 24 Dba. That Nexus fan is 36.87 CFM and 22.8 Dba.

If you're going to be mostly gaming, get a Athlon64 3200+ and a DFI Lanparty which will cost you about $140 for the mobo and $190 for the CPU. You can also bump up the CPU to a A64 3500+ which will run about $270 but since you're on a budget it'd make more sense to get a 3200+ which is cheaper and only slightly less performance. The 3200+ is also very easy to overclock to 3500+ speeds. Make sure to get a Socket 939 mobo with PCI-E.

The RAM would then cheapen to roughly $100 for 2x512MB (1GB) because DDR memory is cheaper than DDR2.

With the money saved from having to buy expensive RAM and getting a cheaper (but not weak) CPU, boost your video card to a Radeon X800XL which will run you about $300. This will own that 6600GT you were thinking of getting.

Changing your setup to what I suggested would be heads and tails better in gaming performance due to a better video card. In general computing it is just as good. The only weakness would be it's not as good if you're doing a lot of video encoding. Realistically video and audio encoding is a small portion of what people use thier computers for. Even those of us here who use our computers for higher end stuff don't do a lot of video encoding. To top it off, the system changes I suggested (if going with a 3200) would be slightly cheaper too. Bonus.

If you do stick with an Antec P160, make sure the extra fan will fit. I think the maxium height is 25mm or something for the 120mm front fan enclosure.
