Put this machine together and have had nothing but problems. Machine BSOD upon boot up, sometimes after login and running several minutes, sometimes after login and just sitting there. Have done all the updates necessary I think.

Vista Business is SP1 and have gone online and done all the critical updates. Have been at the MSI site
and updated all the necessary drivers, Realtec sound, Bio's, Dual Core Center, ATI cataylst and drivers. Used driver detective program to verify all the latest drivers installed.

Originally I had set Vista/control panel/power options to balanced. Believe this was causing a core voltage problem contributing to BSOD. Changed it to performance and it seemed to help.

Installed Dual Core center and with power setting set at balanced in power options core voltage showed 1.04. After changing power settings in power options have core voltage at 1.25. The memory voltage is at 1.90.

Using the Dual Core Center if I punch the AV button it kills the video, the machine is still running but can't access anything (have black screen) have to manually press the reset button.
  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
    Computer has never worked correctly.
  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
    Problem is completely Random.
  5. I already tried these steps:
Done all the updates and changed the power settings in Control Panel/Power Options/from balanced to performance.
  6. My software:
    • Operating System = Vista Business SP1 Build 6.0.6001.2.1.256.6 all updates
    • Antivirus = Avast Home Free for Vista
    • Firewall = Vista's Own
    • MSI = Dual Core Center, Realtec Sound
      [

  7. My hardware
    • System brand & model, if it?s a pre-built system such as a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. If it?s not, fill in as much of the information below as you can.
    • Motherboard brand & model = MSI DKA790GX - Platnium
    • CPU model = AMD 9550 Agena not overclocked
    • Video card = ATI 3870 Shapphire
    • RAM = OCZ Fatal1ty 2x2048 1066Mhz DDR2 Dual Channel
    • Power supply = 500watt Ultra Lifetime SATA
    • Dvd Burner = Lite-on SuperWrite All
    • Hard Drive = Seagate Barracuda 250mb 7200 w/16mb mem.SATA

BSOD does not give any clue as to what the problem is. Post the error codes here. Be better IMO to get at least 2 BSOD to see if there the same error. Also check the event viewer Custom View - Administrative Events and and post any error you think might help.

I always like to run memory diagnostics like lmemtest86 for several hours (at least one pass) on a new build, especially if it's BSODing and freezing. I would put all of the Vista settings that you changed back to default. You should not have to change them.

You also might want to set your BIOS settings back to default just for good measure.
