i put everything back together and am not even getting 1 beep..

i turn it on, the mobo fires up, the cpu HSF runs and the hdds start spinning, but i don't get any beeps whatsoever.

I even took all the ram out.. no beeps.

any ideas ?
EDIT mobo is Asus a8n-vm mATX.. the power connector threw my for a bit 'cuz it was EATX.. so i plugged my normal 24 pin + 4 pin power supply.. seems to fit fine.

cpu is AMD 3700 san diego

FIGURED IT OUT jeezz... finally.. i feel very stupid because something similar to this happened to me 2 builds ago & i didn't remember til i figured it out.

i was used to just plugging in the 20 pin power + a 4 pin power connector on my last few mobos... on this on, it requied an EATX power supply which as it turns out on my PSU a 20 pin & separate 4 pin connector..

what I didn't do was connect the original 4 pin connector to my mobo near the CPU. as soon as I did that, powered it up and got a beep.. i never realized how beautiful a beep could be.

thanks everyone for your help.

Try it with no video card and see if it beeps?

Clear the CMOS?

Disconnect everything other than CPU, RAM, and video card?

That could be part of the problem. Ususally boards will beep an error sequence if there's no video card, but I don't think it's always a guarantee that they will. You might want to just pop in a video card and see what happens.

could the mobo be shorting out even though the hsf, mobo lights, etc.. are on?

Yes, I had an old board do a similar thing when an improperly placed riser caused a short near the AGP slot. Everything powered up and looked fine, but it would not POST or do anything else. Removing the riser and placing it in the correct spot fixed it.

Can you do a test outside of the case to ensure that there's not a grounding issue?

I'm not sure about the A8N matx, but with my A8N-SLI deluxe there are no post beeps but a voice post reporter. Plug in some speakers and turn them up and see if you get a voice post message

i'm at my wit's end (short walk)... i've tried everything i can think of..

i've hooked up headphones, but am not hearing anything there

i've taken the mobo out of the case and connected ram, cpu, onboard video - nothing.

used my new 7800 gt co as a vid source instead of onboard - nothing.

what could be wrong that a mobo won't even run through the BIOS, or give any audible signals?

I had a no post after booting for the first time with two sticks of RAM (dual channel) installed, in the proper slots. I pulled one out, leaving one in slot 1 and it booted up. I didn't anticipate that... Booted later with two installed just fine.. Go figure.

Is that how the manual said to do it? It would seem like slot 1 would be the one you want.

first, clear cmos. then remove everything except 1 stick of ram, the processor, and the video. boot it up. what happens?

Are you sure you didn't install the processor backwards? (gold triangle away from the lever)

I know I did when I went from my athlon xp to an athlon 64 and had the same problem as you
