New Build No Video Problem, Any Suggestions?

A friend of mine recently had his motherboard die on him so he decided to put together a new high end system, the specs are as follows....
P4 3.0 Ghz 800mhz bus
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
Ati Raedon 9800 Pro 128mb
2x 512mb Kingston PC3200 DDR cas 2.5 (listed on the motherboard compatability list)
Pc Power and Cooling 425 watt PSU
WDSE 200GB drive
Creative Audigy 2 w/ Break out Box
Viewsonic 20" LCD w/ DVI connection
Microsoft Natural Keyboard (PS2) and Intelli Mouse Explorer 3.0
Win XP Pro

He has a small problem however, the system will not display Video, this is what was wrong w/ his old motherboard which unforunatly was just out of warrenty, All Parts w/ the exception of his CPU, RAM, and Motherboard are all from his old system, All the other parts have been confirmed to work in other PC's the only new items are CPU, RAM, and Motherboard. He orginaly Purchased an Asus P4C800 Deluxe which he was not able to make operate stable. Also that board would not save any settings in the bios w/out saying overclocking failed (including Underclocking or backing off memory timings, ect...). In any event when he went to return this board they didn't have any P4C800's (or other I875 chipset motherboards) in stock so he just returned the malfunctioning board and purchased the P4P800 Deluxe Instead. He got this board home and lo and behold no video, w/ all his components confirmed to work in other PCs, The system sounds as if it posts and even boots but he has no display... He's tried various stuff to get it to work all w/ no luck, I had him try to clear the cmos, and get the system to boot w/ just the video card, CPU, & Ram, & I can asure you that everything was seated and hooked up correctly when he tried this, but no luck, he didn't get anything. Welp I'm kinda at a loss as to what is causing this, my only real suspect is his new motherboard but I find it kinda hard to belive that he's had 2 bad brand new Asus Motherboards in a row. So if anyone has any suggestions of other stuff we could try or if they think it could be any of the other components just don't all want to play nice together Speak up and post some Suggestions 🙂 Thanks for any of your ideas in advance 🙂

I'm sure its been tested, and its a stupid suggestion, but is the monitor .. "good"? Or try a diff one..

The LCD has been tested w/ just the DVI connection w/ the prior motherboard, and worked fine, I also suggested using an Analoug cable w/ the LCD but he didn't have one avi. as of 3 days ago the display worked fine, so I doubt that is the issue as it does power on and says no signal, but we are going to look into that just in case, thanks for the suggestion 🙂

Stupid question number 2: Did you check the video cable itself? Specifically, are there any bent pins in the connector? Can you confirm the monitor works on another system?

...and for the moronically stupid, because if this is the problem, you should make sure you don't breed...is the monitor turned on and/or plugged in? 😀

You already said hooked up correctly but I'll ask anyways, did he remember the 4pin molex for the 9800pro? that board has post reporter so did he hook speakers up to hear if there's any message? Tried the other SC-DDR slot?

I just Confirmed today that the LCD does work w/ another PC today w/ both analoug and DVI connections, so it is good and fyi it was on when we were testing it says "no signal" when it doesn't have one so it's kinda hard to miss 😛 the aux power connector was pluged into the Raedon at all times, I had him tripple check 🙂. Also neither the P4P800 or the P4C800 have onboard viedo, in the case of the P4C it was set to boot to agp first in the bios, but w/ the P4P we can't get video so I have no clue whats in the bios at this point if it isn't the factory defaults. Thanks for the suggestions all, keep em comming 🙂

Maybe a bit obvious, but I just did this myself 😱 , CPU fully seated? My new XP1700 T-Bred wasn't giving me any video at all. I reseated the video card, tried an old PCI Voodoo Banshee, still nothing. So I decided to put the old Palomino XP1700 back in. That's when I noticed one side of the cpu wasn't all the way in the socket, hence no video. Embarassing, but reseating the cpu and reinstalling the heatsink, and now am happily at 2.0 Ghz clock speed at 1.625 volts.

As it turns out the CPU wasn't seated correctly similarly to Novice's post, I was amazed that that happend as my friend said that he double checked and made sure it was installed correctly in the socket, but it turns out he had 7 bent pins that he missed and the cpu wasn't totaly in the socket, I had to use a magnifing glass and a sewing needle to bend the pins back into place, they were so tiny on the P4 it was amazing, but I did get the system to work finaly, He just finished installing windows on his PC w/ all the default settings and he isn't stable, he was getting IRQL not less than or Equal BSODs relating to win32k.sys, he's using a belkin USB Nic and I suspect this may be the cause of his errors, so I'm gonna have him try and use the onboard ethernet and see if we can get his PC stable, but on the upside at least he has a working if somewhat unstable PC, I think I'm also gonna have him turn of USB legacy support as that was causing stability issues for some people acording to some on asusboards.com. Welp thanks for all the help and good suggestions guys. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Glad to hear that you got it working. At least I didn't bend any pins on mine. I am kind of surprised to hear of his stability issues, as I thought Intel and Asus would have had those things sorted out. (Given the prices they charge!)

sounds like a memory error.

take one of the chips of ram out and see if it still does that error. if so, try the other chip alone. ect.

I had my friend disable usb lecacy support, back off on some of his memory timings (now 2.5, 4, 4, 8), and switch to his onboard 3com NIC and his system seems to be stable at this point. Thanks for the help and suggestions again people 🙂
