Some troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated. As far as I can tell it means there is a problem with the mobo, the gpu, or not enough power from the psu I got to run everything.

Runs fine if I plug in using onboard graphics with gpu disconnected. No signal from any port on the mobo or gpu with the gpu plugged in.

Here is the setup:

Intel Core i5-4670k
MSI Z87-G55 LGA 1150
Asus R9270 2GB
Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W
G.SKill Sniper 2x4GB DDR3 1600
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB HDD

I thought the power supply would be plenty for 1 gpu/hdd and nothing else but maybe its not? How can I test? Fans come on and the greenlight if I plug in the gpu with power.

You're sure the card is properly seated? And you plugged in the 6-pin power connector to the card, right?

Your PSU has 2 12V rails and 2 6-pin connectors. So either they're both on one rail, or one rail shares the mobo and a 6-pin connector. Did you try using the other 6-pin connector instead? Edit: Unless you meant the 270X which uses both at the same time.

Yes I tried both 6-pin connectors, its the 270 not the x so just one 6pin for power.

Give one of the other x16 slots a try. It's not optimal, but it would help you rule out a faulty PCIe slot.

Do you have another computer (or a friends computer) that you could try the 270 in?
