i assembled the new build (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=30665448#post30665448).

i tried to boot up the machine and nothing happened. upon trying to debut, i went through the manual which says try switching polarity on the power switch wires. so far this didn't do anything. as per the antec 180 case, the fans should spin. i don't see any leds lite on the motherboard (i'm not sure if the p55a displays an led when it has power to it). (i know my asus did).

any info of how i can troubleshoot to see what might be causing the problem? i hope no items were DOA.

any ideas?

Do a minimal install outside the box with one stick of ram (check the manual to make sure you're using the right slot for that configuration), GPU, CPU and no HDD. Try to post. You can check your PSU by shorting the green and any black wire on the MB connector (check your manual) and see if the MB fans spin. Check your case connectors for proper orientation to pin one. Do not depend on the wire labels, look for the embossed triangle on the connector.

thank you for your post. id like to dissect what you mentioned if you don't mind.

How will I post if there's no speaker for the case?
Please elaborate about shorting the PSU with the green and black wire..how is this accomplished again?

I tried all possible combinations for the power switch, all of which failed. I'd like to try the barebones setup to verify the psu works, the mobo, etc.

thanks for your reply.

You don't need a speaker although sometimes it helps. You do need a monitor lol.
Look in your manual, There is often a diagram showing which wires to connect. Any short length of wire can be used.

Your 24 pin ATX connector has two rows of pins. Usually about 4 pins from the end is a green connector. You connect a wire from that connector to any black connector to test your fans but, you should follow what the manual says.

i'm looking in the manual for more details.

the psu fan does not spin. will this only spin when connected to the mobo?

update: i connected the black and green wire explained on a web site to test fans. fans did spin. looks like i have to troubleshoot each part. what's the best way to troubleshoot this one by one but from the most barebones of parts connected?

I was going to ask if you had turned the PSU switch on. LOL.

Stuff like that happens to the best of us. I never forget the sick-to-your-stomach feeling when it happens.

I'm glad you made some headway. :) The absolute fastest way to troubleshoot is to take your time, eliminate and, consolidate.
