Hi all,
I just recently ordered this for a new quiet computer. This computer will be used for Microsoft SQL and data-mining. It will also be used as a personal computer for dvd plays and general computer use and no gaming. This will all be connected to a 30inch LCD monitor that needs dualdvi. Please help me out and critique the parts as well as any information and advice for the build itself and i need to benchmark. Thanks so much for reading and helping!!!

(btw: how do i benchmark this? do i download some programs?) details appreciated
(raid 0 for raptors?) not sure how to do this and whats better. need fast for sql

1) Raptors are not quiet.
2) Seagates are not quiet.
3) BFG 7600GT is not quiet.

A quiet computer would have Western Digital SE16 or Samsung T166 hard drives and a passively cooled 7600GT/GS. Instead of multiple smaller hard drives, you would use single larger ones (ie 500GB vs. two 320GB).

raptors are quieter than you think (my friend has the 74GB and its not that loud), my 2x400GB 7200.10 seagate sata HDs are basically dead silent, and my msi 7900GT is pretty silent too, but i did turn the setting on for "fan always on".

Download free programs to stress test
Orthos or Prime95 for CPU
Memtest86 for Memory
3d Mark for graphics.

He's right, the 150GB Raptor is not quiet. It's the loudest thing in my case.

I do have the Zalman 9500AT though, not sure if you got that or the LED, and I've been happy with that, and it is pretty quiet. Nice with the PWM fan too.

wow thanks alot everyone... thanks thanks thanks

btw im thinking about getting the Lian Li case v600?
i tihnk its a perfect size.
all midtower cases have so much useless space unless you have crazy amount of hdds and optical drives... i usually only have 3 or 4 hdds and 1 or 2 opticals.... so im thinking about getting that one...

the only thing is im goingto mod it... im thinking about somehow placing the psu in where 2 of the optical drives would fit... is there any extension or something where i can lead through the computer?

and how hard is it to make a window...

The Thermaltake Tsunami Dream all aluminum case mine is very quiet. it has rubber grommets for hard drive mounting, which reduces hard drive vibrations. Gigabyte's silent pipe technology is a plus. I think Gigabyte has some silent video cards also, but I've had no experience with those. But my rig sits right next to my face and I can just slightly hear the fans running. I could be deaf though, as my last computer sat in the same place (inside an Antec Performance case) and the whine was nearly deafening. Also, the Antec Phantom psu is supposed to make no noise at all, but I would check user reviews on it before buying it.
