New Build, need some help figuringsomething out.

I originally wanted to upgrade my gateway pc, but then i thought about it and decided that building a new one be be a much better idea.

So heres what my rig is gunna be compused of:

Case: Sunbeam UV acrylic mid tower
Mobo: ECS 780G Black edition
CPU: Athlon X2 4200+ for now (since i already have it) X2 6000+ verrry soon
PSU: Logisys acrylic 550w, or Apevia Java 500w
Ram: 4gb OCZ Fatal1ty ed. 800MHz
GPU: HD4870

the problem i'm having is with the heatsink i want to use w/ my cpu. I want to get an OCZ Vanquisher. i can get 1 for $20 and its a pretty good cooler for the price. only thing is will it fit in my case??? the cooler is abot 5.5" tall and mt case is 7.5" wide. there are also to 80mm fans on the side, but i don'tthink they'll get in teh way. so what do you guys think??
 
only reason i want the logisys psu is because its acrylic and has the uv green sleeving. it really compliments my case. are there any other acrylic psu's out there
 
Acrylic components accumulate dust and grime very quickly. They're a complete pain in the butt to keep clean from what I understand.
 
Buying a PS because based on looks is at best short sighted.
Buy as much quality as you can afford. How do you figure that out?
Read reviews and think about what you've read. :laugh:

As far as the cooler goes, measure the distance from your CPU to the side panel.
You should also take note of any components or obstructions that might cause problems with the new cooler.
 
The PSU is essentially the heart of your PC. Do not skimp on it, or it could take out the life of your pc and all it's components.

Make sure your motherboard can support the 45nm Denab. I would skip the 6400+ upgrade and go with denab or Phenom2 in the future.

Stick with less flashy ram that requires the standard 1.8v. That OCZ ram probably cost a lot more and requires 2.1v to run and correct timings.

Hopefully that case has good airflow.

Your HD4870 is gonna be limited because of your 4200+.

What games do you play???
 
yeah i realize how bad of an idea it is to get that psu based on its looks, so i think i'll go with a coolermaster or thermal take and mod it myself. as for cooling, the case has 5, 8omm fans moving 34cfm each, 1 in front, 1 in the back, 1 on top, and 2 on the side panel. also i wasn't planning on getting the 4870 till i got a more suitable processor, the motherboard has onboard HD3200 so i should be good until then.

as for the ram i was only planning on getting it because it was on sale for 34.99
