New build keeps restarting itself 5 seconds after shutting down

Hey, All,

The details: New basic build w/Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L mobo and 1GB of Kingston RAM (one stick). CPU is an Intel E5200 (dual core), PSU is a Seasonic S12 II-330 (w/17a on each 12V rail). Not much else in this thing except a new SATA HD, a DVD drive, a FDD, a card reader up front, and one case fan. No vid card or sound card or anything else.

Component installation seemed to go okay and I got Windows installed. The machine works fine except when I shut it down. Five seconds later, it turns itself back on. 😕 Same thing happens if I choose Standby rather than Shut Down.

I've checked the BIOS (and it's current), checked all the Power Mgmt settings and WOL features in the BIOS, swapped out PSUs, re-installed Windows and the mobo drivers twice (each), flipped the pin connectors for the power switch and reset button over, disabled the "automatic restart upon system failure option," etc. Prob persists.

Anyone seen this before? The tech support gal at Gigabyte told me she thinks it's a PSU issue, but I tried another one already (a Seasonic S12 380). And they closed at 5:30 p.m., so I can't call her back tonight. Should I just RMA the board?

that is really messed up! if it continues after a cmos reset, send it back.

Yeah, I was thinkin' about doin' a CMOS reset, but the machine did it right from the get-go, so how would a new board's CMOS have gotten messed up?

Another option in the BIOS is something called "Restore Optimized Defaults." I may give that a whirl first.

Well, got it fixed. Did a CMOS reset, loaded the optimized defaults in the BIOS, and all's well.

Sure would like to know why a brand new board needed a CMOS reset right outta the box though. 😕 Any of you guys ever have that happen to you before?
