Just got the parts for a new build. I have:

Gigabyte K8ns-Pro motherboard
AMD 64 3000+
1GB Mushkin Memory
80 GB Western Digital HDD
9550 Radion Card

Basically I just got done hooking up all the components in the case, when I turn it on to go through the bios setup and stuff, the monitor just stays in test mode and I get no response. The fans are all working (CPU fan, Case fan, Video Card fan). Im also not getting any beeps of any kind.

Anyone have an idea of what the issue may be. Ive already tried swapping the memory stick and that didnt help.

Any help is GREATLLY appreciated

Also, if your Western Digital is a PATA drive (as opposed to SATA), make sure its jumper is set to Single Drive if it has its own dedicated IDE cable. That's done by taking the jumper cap off the pins and just leaving it off.

Also confirm that your ATX 12V cable is plugged in and that you did mount the mobo on standoffs.

If it's not that stuff, could you also post the brand and model of your power supply? You may want to do an out-of-case test with the board laying on cardboard and just the essential items (CPU, one memory module, video card and power supply, no case wiring except power button). Like here.

Good luck! :)

Well, it looks like its the power supply. The power supply the case came with was a powerlab 480Watt PSU. What I did was this.

I went out and swapped motherboard first, solid waste of $200 :-( as I was getting almost the same error except this time when I held in the power switch the machine wouldnt even turn off.

I then thought about it some more and realized that when I had the original Gigabyte motherboard in, and the power on, the fans would run but again no response from the screen. But also the CD-Rom drive when I tried to open it wouldnt budge, and I was also getting no response from the keyboard.

With the New motherboard I installed I was getting the falshing lights from the keyboard but that was about it. So i decided to put this new Powerlab Powersupply in my old working computer which I am upgrading from. I put the cpu in and got nothing. I would turn the power on, the fans would begin to run the shut down and stop. I tried it a few more times, sometimes I would get nothing, other times I would get the same issue as before with the fans running and screen in test mode.

So after about 6 hours, a $200 new motherboard, it appears it is a simple Power Supply issue, at least i think thats what it is, all sign point to this. With my luck I'll get the new power supply, put it in and it wont work :)

The only thing I found strange about this was the fact that the fans and LED lights would turn on on the new build machine, if the PSU was dead I wouldnt even get that. But maybe its not dead just defective.
