HD's are NOT trusthworthy, a new HD can die in several days without you knowing it. If your PC's aint behind a UPS a energy surge can kill all of them, if you want to look at those pics when you are almost blind of old age, I would at least get a UPS, and/or keep the pictures stored on a different medium as well, IF possible of course. People put to much faith in HD's, but I reckon they are the least trustworthy part in a PC.

I just don't want to lose anything as I have around 9 years of pictures on the drives and various other data from college, etc.... What I typically do is buy a new HD every year or so and copy the files onto the new drive and leave the other copy on the original drive so I always have the files in two places.

Back them up to an external drive. Periodically make images of this drive onto DVD. Consider more external drives for redundancy, or internet backups.

Thanks guys! The external drive idea is great so I can only utilize it when backing up and keep it off when not in use so as to not wear it out as fast.

Backing up to DVD would be a huge pain as I have nearly 100 GB of pictures alone!

As for a UPS - I do have my pc on one that is like a 500 or something (cant remember the approrate term as its been so long). Maybe I will look into upgrading that as well. Any suggestions on a good brand for a decent price? Also, what rating should I be looking for?

It doesn't have to be upgraded I think, as long as it protects your PC from energy surges and allows you to shut down your PC within several minutes, instead of just going out because the electricity got cut, which 'could' damage the PC/HD. If you want to upgrade it though, ask on the PSU forum, I'm not really into UPS's. And I didn't mean DVD, I ment HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

Sorry guys - got tied up at work and couldn't reply until now.

I decided to get another 750gb drive and an EVGA 256mb DDR3 card on newegg ($69.99 after MIR).

I'm going to return the 320gb and the Zoigs card.

I will look into the UPS thing. The one I have now will keep the PC on for a few minutes but the second I power on the monitor they both shut off so I think I need a bigger one! 🙂

I will report back after I get all my parts and throw it together.

Thanks for all the support thus far!

Well, I got everything I need to put it together this weekend...... Except the friggin motherboard. Figures, it's suppose to be here Monday night.

Is there any benefit to running a 64 bit version of windows over the 32 bit version?

I mean cosmetically it will show the full 4gb of ram but that is just for looks anyways since the 32 bit actually will use the ram.

So what's the benefit of 64 bit really?
