heeelp,
this is a new build, everything seems to boot up fine.
When i boot from windows xp install cd, this install process quits on me. Every time i try its at a different spot during the install. Sometimes i cant even format the partition, getting an error saying the drive may be damaged. Sometimes i get past formatting and it stops when setup is coping files after hardware is checked.. it will get a percentage of the way through.. then will stop on a file and a message saying the file cannot be copied, esc to skip file enter to retry.. and every file after that will not copy etiher. A few times i have gotten past both steps to the point i was filling in time zone information with about 36 minutes left in the install and the bluescreen of death has come up... after rebooting there is no OS to boot to yet.

What is wrong? my XP cd is fine. Is the hard drive faulty?? i got it OEM from newegg??

thanks
fuzy

Hi fuzyslipas and Welcome to the Forums!

Go the site of the HDD manufacturer and get free d/l of driver fitness proggie. Run that to see if the drive is faulty.

Might wanna Memtest86 etc to make sure ram is OK too b4 installing the OS.

Post complete specs, including brand and model of power supply and brand & model of RAM.

Fuzy,

Welcome to the Forums!

First test your RAM with memtest86.
This creates a bootable disk and runs the test.

i will do all of the above, but i noticed my processor was running at 178 f .. i thought this was too hot, i read reviews of mobo on newegg and someone else was said they only got 3 legs of the heatsink snapped it and it was causing same symptoms.. i removed my heatsink.. and it i believe i did not have a 4th leg snapped in as well.. the heatgrease is somewhat hard on the processor now.. this is not good correct? it is a prescott processor.. i want to reinstall the heatsink and see what happens but i feel like i should remove the hard heat grease and apply new.. how do i go about removing it?

I replaced the heatsink wiht new cooling grease and its running mroe around normal temps.. but still problems with the OS install.. i cant get past setup coping setupfiles to the harddrive.. it stopped at different percentages every time... every time it happens it stops on a file and then the cd rom stops blinking. i have to f3 to reboot and then start over.

Yeah, the one I use (Maxblast or powermax) uses a boot disk. Don't even need an OS installed to run it. Datalifeguard or whatever should be the same.

Hey, don't ignore this man. Do as he says to get some help please. Your power supply may very well be the cause of your problems.

Well google can't even find that power supply. Sounds like you have a very cheaply made power supply. I would replace with a quality power supply. Do a search for power supply here to see what models are good.

I had an MGE. Is your power supply the one with a clear window and blue led fans? It was stable and powerful enough for a DVDRW, DVD/CDRW, One 120gig, one 200 gig, KV8Pro, 3400+, five case fans, etc. You did format the drive completely? Quick format or the slow format? Try slow format..sometimes quick doesn't do it.

What voltage is your RAM set at in BIOS.
Sometimes the default value it too low.
If it is 2.5v, try upping to 2.6 or 2.7v in steps to see if that does the trick
