New build finished, but stuck at the start!

Hi All, I just finished putting together a AMD 4000+ with a Geforce 6800 card, I turned it on and at least it runs but I can't get anything to show up on my monitor so I can't configure BIOS, install Windows, etc. I know its probably because the computer doesn't recognize the PCI-Express card but I don't have any where else to plug in the monitor, any help anyone can give me with this? No idea where to go from here.

Mmmm Is the card shoved all the way in? This happened to me once...

Has your monitor worked on some other computer before?

Yes, I had to put my other computer back with the monitor I am using right now to try to get some help online, so I know it's not the monitor. I have an SLi motherboard but am only using one card, is there something I might need to do that I was unaware of for that?

I'm unfamiliar with the whole SLI bit, but I know there are two PCIx slots, try switching. The other option is looking online or in the manual to see if there are jumpers that need adjusting, etc. Good luck!

Did you plug in the PCI-E 6 pin connector?

PCI-E 6 pin connector? I just plugged it in to the PCI slot.

Okay, I have a Seasonic 500w S12 power supply and I found a cord that looks like it will fit in to the back of my graphics card, is this the power connector?

The pci-e 6 pin connector is a power connector to provide enough power to that card so that it will be able to work. Without it you wont see anything on the screen. Look at the graphics card and see if it has a socket for the power. Some take a molex connector like for hard drives to power the gpu, depends on what card you have. Not all power supplies have one so if you don't see a small 6 pin connector from your psu see if a convertor cable came with your card and use that. If you don't have one of them you'll have to buy one from a computer store before you can see a picture on the card. A 6800 should definitely need one.

Yep the 500w s12 definitely has the connector and there is only one so that must be it, good luck and let us know if it works

Alright everyone, no dice. It won't load up my monitor. Any idea where I should go from here?

Now check the motherboard to see if it needs any extra power connectors. The dfi ones need an extra molex etc. Best if you list your components.

DFI Lanparty Nforce 4
AMD 4000+ San Diego
Sony 3.5 drive
Plextor DVD writer
Seasonic 500w PSU
Seagate 7200.8 hard drive
BFG Gforce 6800 Ultra
2 gig patriot RAM

The DFI needs another power cord plugged in to the motherboard? Any more info on this?

Theres a 4 pin 12v connector to your motherboard from the power supply you need to attach is what there saying.
