Have just started my second build and cannot get past initialn much power test.I installed cpu, heatsink, memory and installed board in case.Hooked up power supply and power switch and powered system up fine for about a mimute. Shut down and installed rest of case fans and checked again before going to hard drives and video card. Now all I get on power up is the cpu fan will start and immediatly shut down. I have read on forums what I could and have already tested power supply which tested fine and have reinstalled heatsink cause I saw this could possibly be an issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My first post but I have been lurking here for a couple years and have gotten much help and advice.thanks again

Well I had that experience one time and it turned out the problem was that the heatsink wasn't properly secured onto the cpu, so the whole shebang was shutting down to prevent mortality from overheating.

Your post seems to indicate you already checked for that possibility & eliminated it, but you might take another look at it.

Did you mount your heatsing onto the cpu with a good thermal paste, properly applied ? For example, http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

I can't think why else it'd shut down immediately. I hope some other AT posters enter this thread to help you out.

You can say that again! :)

It may sound stupid, but you do have your power swtich on the PSU swtiched to the on position, right?
