2GB DDR-400
2x 36GB Raptors
256 MB Geforce 7800 GTX

i was reading about having to do something with updating bios.

do i need to update?
how can i know or check?

thanks

thanks wilson06, so flash after i finish set up and install win xp right?

basically, this is not a clean build, my previous mb and cpu died and so i got new mb and cpu.

previous was ABIT IC7G + P4 3.0GHz

my HDD already have win xp. should i clean install or repair?

I would simply plug the HDD back in, boot into windows with your old partition, install asus update and flash bios, reboot, reconfigue bios, reboot, reformat. This is what I do with new builds. I would definately reformat if I were you. Your system could simply works just fine, or not. You can try it and see but in my case I simply don't bother and reformat.

You'll have to at least do a repair install switching from an Intel based setup to an AMD, it's highly unlikely windows will boot since the chipsets are so differant. I would flash the bios prior to installing windows, since you'll want to make sure windows recognizes both cores of your dual core. However, if it recognizes your cpu correctly with the BIOS version it comes with, I wouldn't bother with the newest version of BIOS unless you run in to some kind of problem it's supposed to fix.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, I do recall reading that there were additional things added or bios tweaks done to the newer BIOS for that particular board. You may want to check out the mobo forum and XS.

I would never flash my BIOS in Windows. Get a clean boot CD and flash your BIOS in DOS.

Also, format your hard drive and flash the BIOS BEFORE re-installing windows. This will give you the most trouble-free setup.
