I have a very outdated Dell Dimension 4550 desktop currently maxed out on everything so I want to get back into building my own....I hope this is the right forum ehhh....
The other thing I was looking into, Dell has a quad core 2.4 with 3GB ram and 500GB HD for $499...

So far I have the following, I need reccommendations for 650 watt ps, case, video card, chip,

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

These are the things I was looking at putting together what do you think?

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core

Antec NeoPower 650 Blue 650W ATX12V / EPS12V

ASUS EN8800GT/G/HTDP/512M GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video

Antec P182 Gun Metal Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

All of the above items look to run approx $1100... thats about $300 above what I wanted to spend.

Did I forget anything outside of dvd and cd drives?
Is this a good build?

I already have dvd drives and extra parts from other pc's and I am set with 24" and 19" dual monitor setup...

Anyway thanks for any help

so 80 ppl have viewed and only 1 comment, does that mean that its a pretty solid build?

i think it probably does indicate that. i mean, you're looking at some blue chip parts. the antec psu's these days aren't my particular cup of tea..i prefer silverstone myself but that's just my taste. i don't see a lot of places you could downgrade to save some money..less ram, less vid card, 500 watt psu but...i think the 8800 cards are going to get a lot cheaper with the new stuff coming out so you may want to hang a bit..and if you didn't know, price cuts coming soon on intel dual and quad core processors (a thread in processor section)..not sure if you had that info when you priced things out:) good luck!

If you get the Asus P5Q Pro you can save $60. Plus you can get it as a combo with the Asus HD4850 with a $30 combo discount on Newegg in addition to the $30 mail in rebate (bringing it to the same price as a 8800gt).

You can also save $50 by getting the Antec P180 instead, or any other cheaper case like the Cooler Master 690 for $85.

You also could save by getting an Intel E7200 ($50 less) and since it has a slower FSB you can get cheaper ram like the G.Skill DDR1000 (~$40 less). If overclocking, you can achieve similar performance to the E8400.

You're missing an aftermarket heatsink if overclocking. Get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 for $37

That will get you a similarly performing system much closer to your price point

I too have looked at the dell outlet pc's . In the end I feel I would 'feel' better if I built it myself . Having said that the parts you are putting together are very good . From past experience,I would get the fastest cpu I could afford, the most ram I could afford, the fastest / largest harddrive(s) I could get . I think I will do one optic drive only and no floppy on my next build . Going with Antec/Asus/Intel will do well for you I think.
