The Phenom IIs are excellent overclockers.

I got my 905e up to 3.75ghz from 2.5ghz, and I think I'm FSB limited more than anything else (I'm stuck at 12.5x300).

I'm planning to get an X6 Thuban if I can't drop a Bulldozer into my motherboard. As much as people have been complaining about AMD not having competetive CPUs, their cheap X4s kick ass. They may not win in terms of overall performance, but they hold a number of advantages over intel CPUs.

Hell, you can score a Thuban from the FS/FT forums for as much as an X4. I got my 1055t for as much as a new X4 955 and even though it's probably the worst overclocking 1055t out there, I'm still happy for the price I paid. It's the last upgrade this system will get and will hold me over for another few years.

Thanks for the idea.

I'll have to check it out. I could probably swap my current CPU for an X6 for $20-30.

You're making me feel bad about myself, my X6 is only clocked at 3.4ghz

:awe:

Did you try clocking any higher? I was hoping to hit 4GHz with mine, but 3.9 required 1.55v for stability... who knows what 4 would have took.

So a year later and this machine is still performing flawlessly. I didn't do the BD upgrade and probably won't. Even if BD turned out to be a screamer I've been so satisfied with this box I don't see the point in upgrading right at the moment, in two more years I probably will.

I've been wasting lots of hours with BF3, maxed out at 1920x1200. Couldn't be happier with how this machine has turned out.

I ended up with two HD5850s after all.

My Zalman cooler has been replaced with a Corsair H50 with an extra fan for push/pull. Temps are lower than with the Zalman. I might try bumping the clocks up to 4.2, maybe 4.3 in the next week or so. Hard to complain though as this box has been OC'ed since initial power on basically.

Your amd phenom II x4 965BE with heatsink andfan was $160? Newegg had it on sale for $110 from April 27 to April 30. That's when I bought kine. Right now it's just sitting in my box with 8gb's of Gskill Ripjaws RAM. That looks like a pretty nice OC only using stock cooling.

Gotta love the Phenom. I never managed more than 3.8GHz on my PII 955 though, but now I have more overclocking experience. Maybe I'll get back to that system in time and see if I can do more with it.

Good times :)
