New Build and No video

My first post on the forum, hoping you guys could help me out.

I just built a computer for my room mate and whenever I try getting it running everything spins up but I don't get a signal on the monitor. So far I've tried reseating the 8800GT, I've tried using a different 8800GT and I tried putting in my old X1800 GTO. I've tried both PCI-E slots as well as using different memory (Corsair XMS DDR2-800Mhz). So far my only hint is that when I powered on with the X1800 GTO the T-fault LED was lit but since there is barely any documentation on the X1800 GTO on Connect3d's website I'm not exactly sure what that means. I haven't gotten any POST codes from it since the case didn't come with a PC speaker but I'm thinking I'll pull mine from my computer and see if I get anything. Any help would really be appreciated.

Its actually an 8 pin on the power supply so I took of the cover on the motherboard. Have the card connected as well.

did you set the video to the video card and not onboard in the bios?

I can't even get into the BIOS. When I turn the computer on I don't get any display or anything. I just tried it with some memory from the QVL and still didn't work

okay, the PSU has a 8pin 12v plug, correct, and the main is 24 pin correct? does the video card require a power connection as well?

try removing the video card and booting it up. the case speaker is plugged in, correct?

Disconnect power. Reseat CPU and both power cables, remove everything else. Check jumpers. Remove 3V battery and short-circuit the contacts. Press power button. Replace battery. Add one stick of working memory into 1st slot (closest to the CPU). Install graphics. Try to boot. If no signal and you have all connected correctly try another DVI/cable. If still no picture you may have PSU/MB/CPU/GPU problem ? try to test all separately.

Oh, yea ? you do not need a speaker ? you should be able to distinguish signals by the LED.

Not sure what you are saying here.

The 8 pin connector is for server mbs. It should split to allow connecting ½ of it (4 pin) to a standard ATX board.

the mobo has a 8pin 12volt plug on it and requires a 8 pin plug from the PSU.

Please post how you have the system wired. For example which of the PCIe cords do you have connected to the Video card? is it a modular supply?
also if the motherboard only uses a 4 pin, you can split the 8 pin in half. It doesnt matter which 4 pin you use.
If this doesnt work test to make sure the PSU is working correctly.
Please take a paper clip - untwist it.
Turn off the PSU.
Take out the 20 or 24pin motherboard connector from the PSU.
Plug one side of the paper clip into the ONLY green wire hole.
Plug the other side into any of the black wire holes.
Turn on the PSU to see if it runs.
If it runs - the PSU is ok.
If it does not, you have a defective PSU.
2) if it does work, then;
Leave the above setup. Use a volt meter and test the power at the red(5v) and yellow(12v) on a 4 pin molex connector(one used for floppy/DVD/HDD drive power)
Do not use software to measure voltage in the system as it is highly inaccurate. use a multi-meter to test voltage

Recently found out that your mb does have an 8 pin 12v connector. Pics seemed to show a 4 pin, but it had a cap on the other 4. fooled me, sorry.

CRT or LCD? VGA or DVI? Have recently heard of some LCDs having problem with initial start with DVI connection.

Power connected to the vid card?

hey sorry I took so long to respond. Took everything off the board and reseated it all and it worked fine. I changed too much to know exactly what the problem was but we're running fine now. Thanks for you all your ideas.
