Hey

I have just bought the following build for £690. Let me know if you people think that I have made any bad choices.

Q6600 CPU
Gigabye EP45 UD3R mobo
coasir 650HX PSU
4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800 Ram
BFG Geforce GTX 260 OC maxcore gfx
500GB Western Digital SATA HD
LG SATA DVD-RW

If you already purchased everything its a bit late for looking too see if you did anything wrong.

Measure twice, cut once.

Seems a little expensive for 1000 dollars but I don't know how the prices are in England.

> coasir 650HX PSU
More than you need unless you plan to SLI later

> 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800 Ram
Regular Crucial is slightly more reliable from the bad mouthing I've read about the Ballistix

> BFG Geforce GTX 260 OC maxcore gfx
Wait a couple of weeks and get a 275 instead? Or an ATI 4890 now?

> 500GB Western Digital SATA HD
The 640 GB is a little faster thanks to its denser platters

ok thanks
yeh I want the higher psu for future upgrades.
the RAM price diff wont be too much so might get Coasir XMS2 instead.
The 275 prices are a bit too much atm and the HD I will change.

Is that Corsair a 620HX or a 650TX? Doesn't make any real difference, both are solid models, but I'm not aware of a "650HX" model. The HX indicates modular cables so you only plug in what you need.

How much are you paying for that old/hot Q6600? How much is a Q8300 and/or a Q9400? Q8300 will match Q6600 stroke-for-stroke and Q9400 will beat it - and both will do it running considerably cooler & sucking down less power.

The Q6600 is the newer SLACR model which runs with less power and I paid £130 while the Q8300 was £160 and Q9400 = £186 which is over me budget. So just went with the Q6600. Just hope it can get to 3.4ghz.

And yeh I meant the 650TX. The 620HX was a £10 more so used that £10 to get a BFX 260 OC Maxcore card instead of the XFX GTX260.
