NEW Build - ? about installing the OS?

I got my NEW 'puter together yesterday and now need to load up the Mobo's Driver Disc and then, of course, comes the W'7 64 bit OS. I am presently running the same OS on this 'puter - I have made an "Easy Transfer" flash drive of everything that it copies and plan to use it at the appropriate time.
I guess my question is - WHEN is the appropriate time in this process - because I remember that somewhere after you start the install of the OS - it asks for the COLA............but don't you have to be connected up via the Internet at that time???? Thus, wouldn't it have been necessary to have hopefully made that Easy Transfer to the NEW 'puter and again, hopefully,
have been able to transfer over DSL Modem etc. and have live Internet useage again. PLEASE advise on BEST way to do this?????

One time, you won't believe this, I was doing something similar to this and thus my system was unprotected for a while and low and behold someone hit me with a Virus and I had to get MS's help to get it out and get OS cleanly installed.

Thanks, michael:\

MAGNUS - TKS. WHEW! Dat is a BIG relief, weight off and needed that because my 1st pre-OS install test with new 'puter just failed.......tried to install the Mobo Disc.....and go from there...went into the BIOS and changed CDROM/DVDROM to Boot 1st.......Disc does not run and I get a Code Reading of Problem of A6 - manual says something to do with the SATA devices that are installed, remove and re-install..........I installed a SATA HDD and a SATA DVDROM Optical drive.
The FUN continues...........😕

so you do not have an OS installed and you are already trying to load drivers? You need to install OS FIRST, then install the drivers from the disc that came with your mobo.

THANKS - got the message on that, appreciate it. NOW can someone PLEASE suggest something to solve this problem so I can go ahead and install that OS first.......I am getting a "A6" Problem Code from my Mobo, the manual says that that means problem with my SATA Drives [remove and re-install]. I don't really know why one would have to take out these new drives and then re-install them, do you? Wouldn't it have to be the connections to one or both of them??? Naturally yhey are both recognized in the BIOS. I have shut it down and then hand tested all of the connections at the mobo and at the HDD and DVDROM and they appear to be "tight" but when I fire up again I still get that A6 CODE????

And this last time I find I cannot EXIT the BIOS - use A10 - YES - nothing happens???

Please advise, TKS michael

So just for shats and giggles I did a search for 'A6 Error code' and am led to believe you have an Asrock motherboard (since you failed to mention that tidbit of info). If this is true, then the A6 error code is a 'SCSI Detect'. Because I can probably bet you don't have an actual SCSI drive (like the code is indicating, and because you are having issues loading an OS to your Harddrive, I'm willing to bet it's simply not setup correctly in the BIOS. What this means is you might have to go into your BIOS and possibly select the AHCI option for your drive. (Shooting in the dark here since, as stated before, I have absolutely no system specs to go off of).

SORRY - did not realize it would matter if you guys knew the particular brands of these items, YOU were right:
1] Asrock FM2A85X Extreme6 2] ASUS SATA DVDROM 3] WD 500 GB SATA VelociRaptor 4] 16GB 1866 DRAM G. Skill [read as 1300]
I see in the BIOS that it did select AHCI w/o me having to. But when trying to set the DVDROM to 1st Boot - there was something to do with their UFEI [sp] Screen that I think was default 1st [don't remember] and don't know IF it has to be first????
Tommorow I am going to go back into the BIOS and tell it to set it back to default.......go from there.....maybe, just maybe, that will settle it.
This is what it says in the Manual: "A0 - A7": Problem related to IDE or SATA devices. Please re-install IDE and SATA devices. IF thhe problem still exists, please clear the CMOS and try removing all SATA devices."

What exactly do they mean by "remove" the SATA devices.....physically, or in the BIOS.......both???????????????? Confused!!!!!

TKS for any and all HELP, michael

Sounds good...

Personally on my own systems, I put the HD as SATA1, and the DVD on SATA2. Wondering if you have your HD in the 1st SATA port?

Also, the error code is simply telling you there is something wrong with the SATA drives, therefore this is the area you should troubleshoot. Their default answer is to 'reinstall', which doesn't necessarily mean it literally. Realize this was probably written by some Asian in China, so you'll have to decipher what they truly meant. 😉

THANKS Smoove: I take it by saying SATA1, that means it is designated in the BIOS to Boot 1st, right? By Default the HDD was actually set to boot 1st. I changed that so the Optical drive would boot first as recommended for install of the OS. My big mistake was trying to install the ASROCK driver CD - STUPID! I will try to tell it to set everything at Default and see IF the A6 CODE goes away.
My Mobo has a Clear CMOS button on the outside......1] Do you Clear the CMOS when the 'puter is OFF or do I turn it ON first? 2] when they say "to clear the CMOS and TRY to remove ALL SATA devices." WHAT do they mean by that last part??????
Do you think if I would do any harm or more harm IF I just left everything connected as is - cleared the CMOS, and started it up???

So let me get this straight... you go into your BIOS and set the Optical to boot first, then you set everything to Default? You do realize that by setting to 'Default' you could be negating the 'boot from Optical first' command. By setting to Default, you are telling the system to basically boot as an unconfigured system, meaning even though you tell it to boot from Optical 1st, it'll probably revert to stock settings of booting from HDD 1st.... starting a continual confusion loop. 🙂 Recommendation - set to boot from Optical 1st, SAVE the settings, then reboot and let it do it's thing. (Leave the 'default' setting alone for now).

Also, to clear the CMOS, you do it while powered down. There's typically a header with a jumper between two pins. Should tell you in your manual.

Good Luck

The designation "SATA1" has nothing to do with boot order, it only identifies the header being used. You only ever clear the CMOS with the computer turned off. Disconnect all SATA devices and reconnect after trying to boot after each addition. The most important thing you can do is to reread your manual from cover to cover.

Thank GOD - a GOOD Samaritan by the name of "wardog" over at ASROCK Tweektown Forums bailed me out of my perdicament, I was ready to RMA my new mobo......he PM'd me his phone # and volunteered to help me out......and that he did in a BIG way , best Tech Support I've ever had, he hel me hand the whole way thru and my new 'puter is up and running smoothly. He said he thought that that "A6" Warning was BS.....and he was right, that it was, I received this from ASROCK Tech Support this AM: To bad others will freak out to due to their Manual mis-information. Hope other ASROCK owners see this🙂

Hi,

A6 appear on the mainoboard mean you have screen display. Which you did because you are able to go into the bios and adjust the optical drive and set it on 1st boot device.

you can simply ignore the A6 on the mainoboard once your mainboard is POSTing.
nothing wrong with code A6 appear its normal.
