New bios for Chaintech VNF3-250 mobo

Finally a new official bios from Chaintech. Dated 7/29/2004. I remember checking and this bios was not available for download all that long ago. Anyways, I just used Winflash and updated to the new bios. I am getting ready to reboot. Hopefully everything will be ok

The bios just says that it added Sempron support.

I am very disappointed with this bios update. Fid doesn't work (multiplyer changes) and no cool n quiet support. Still annoying bugs. I will never buy another board form this company. They very rarely update the bios for their boards. IF the bios were perfect from the start, I could see why not updating the bios. But they have bugs that needs to be fixed and they are not doing much about it. So, Chaintech is off my list, probably for good too. Oh well, I may be selling this board soon

uhh, fid does work. im using it, cool and quiet is listed but doesnt work yet. The only thing wrong with this board is the temperature readings..

i installed the new BIOS (i believe it's 2.0), but when i go to the "Hammer fid" menu option, it just pops open an empty window, and nothing happens when i press keys. i end up having to ctrl-alt-del out of it...has anyone else had this prob??

also, when it boots it says my mem is DDR 333, but it's DDR 400...i can't remember if it used to do this before the upgrade or not, does anyone know if that's right? i thought the RAM speed was set by the FSB (the 200 MHz value) which doesn't jive with DDR 333....

load the fail safe defaults reboot than try again ;]
put the memory on auto and it will run at ddr400

If that doesn't work, clear the CMOS. That worked for me.

thanks guys, you were right on...fail safe defaults worked like a charm, now, since my mem is actually DDR 466 i just have to research how to crank that sh*t up

Same here it is reading 20C higher than with BIos V1.0 Well atleast it ahs sempron support now...

umm.. the shipping bios is the one with the erroneous temp readings. the later bios' (incl this one, tho the 5/19 bios hosed the sys temp reading) corrected it.

i'm actually fond of this bios. it's the first one where initially everything worked properly, and i'm even able to boot of sata and read my ata raid. also has none of the instabilites i experienced with the 7/29 bios. everything is rock solid @ 240fsb/1.6v.

Did you clear your cmos after the flash & then load setup defaults?

try this,it might fix your problem.

DO NOT USE WINFLASH ON THIS BIOS IT DOESNT WORK RIGHT

When I used winflash with this bios, it didnt work right. You have to do it in dos

i used winflash every single time i flashed the bios on this board, so it does work.

I am going to be buying my 64 setup soon and I was going to get this board but I have heard of this board having problems booting from a RAID 0 SATA Array. Is this true?

I really want to get two WD Raptor 36gb drives and set up a RAID 0 Array with them.... mmmmm speed. So if this board won't work with it I guess I have to find a different one that is good and cheap.

I have a major problem. If I flash the 2.0 or 3.0 bios I get a hang before the SATA drives are detected. This only happens after I change anything in Bios ( something as simple as the date and time). The only way to even get past this is to clear cmos and proceed directly to my boot disk and to reflash back to 1.0. Any suggestions? Hangs at post code 75 (IDE detection btw).

2 X Maxtor 160G SATA

i didn't flash the bios and am getting post code 6D. i looked in the manual for that, but that doesn't help me.

my system won't go any further than that post screen.

HELP.
