What are you talking about Hardware???. What are those different settings like agressive conservative and so forth??? And how is it dropping frames???. I do see some of them does it but 2 of them has quiet a good path even in 16x12.

I think:

Conservative = ??
non-Agressive = HSR 0
semi-Agressive = HSR 2
Agressive = HSR 3

To expand somewhat upon my original fabled statement (although clearly it says it all) - the HSR feature that has been incorporated into these beta Voodoo 5 drivers is quite plainly NOT 'unusable' as you put it.

Are you not reading the numerous posts from people here stating that at resolutions of 1024x768 or below, with FSSA settings of 2XAA - HSR would seem to be very much a useable feature, which offers frame rate boosts taking the voodoo 5 past your beloved, darling Geforce 2.

These are BETA drivers. 3dfx release betas and usually release a final driver version shortly after, so I think it's fair to say we can expect to see the visual anomalies fixed in future driver releases, at least to a certain extent (I?d doubt they can fix it so that the Voodoo 5 pumps out 60FPS at 1600x1200x32 without serious glitches?)

Turning on vsync fixes many of the the "flickering" anomolies we've been hearing about.

I have 3 things to say about this

1) These are beta drivers, so anomalies will occur, but THEY DO EXIST, so let's not get our panties in an uproar just yet

2) 3dfx gets kudos. Gigapixel acquisition looks like it may pay off earlier than Mosaic or Fear.

3) Benchmarks ARE NOT EVERYTHING. If it doesn't improve smoothness and playability, then the benchmark means nothing.

I'm reserving judgement until the WHQL-certified version of these drivers comes out.

If it does, then it means that the HSR drivers are not "dropping frames", as this would prevent it from being WHQL.
If a WHQL-certified version of these drivers DON'T come out, then that is VERY VERY suspicious, as 3dfx has prided themselves (and rightfully so) on producing stable, WHQL-certified drivers on an almost monthly basis since the release of the 5500.

Personally, I hope it works out. <g>

Hmm I dont think 3dfx will get WHQL on HSR drivers which are not 100$ error free! (in terms of overall visuals)

From where do you know? Maybe, and yes, definetly, they will be slower than now, but I hope they can make it. BTW, is there also HSR for the Voodoo 3?

Hardware, if it is dropping frames (it may be), then it won't get WHQL-certified for sure

HOWEVER

overclocking will negate any WHQL certification as well.

3dfx may include "HSR tools" as a download from their site, kinda like the 3dfx overclocker is.

Haha, Hardware is too funny. 3dfx employees could sh!t bars of gold and he wouldn't be satisfied.

Hardware, pay attention. No, not to the Sailor Moon cartoon.

There have been many posts recently on the V5500 w/HSR. Why did you feel like you had to start another one?

Go ahead, call me a "zombie"; I know you want to.
