Looks a bit sportier, and definitely an improvement over the last one. Still wouldn't own one.

ah I see. Still not sure if that's supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing, but I'm thinking it's the latter.

The Diesel version looks mighty interesting.

The 2012 Beetle 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel is the most fuel-efficient Beetle ever. The quiet, four cylinder 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel engine produces 140 hp and 236 lb.-ft of torque. It meets all U.S. emission limits and offers manufacturer estimates of 40 mpg highway, 29 mpg city, and 33 mpg combined.

Funny, I was talking with the guy who owns the garage I take my Maxima to for work and he had nothing good to say about the PT Cruiser at all. Said they are complete and utter shit.
They were shit because they broke down all the time and consume more fuel than a 1-ton truck pulling a trailer full of cattle. It was ugly too, but that's not why people hated it so much.

Build an ugly good car and people will buy it.

I once rented that POS car.. and drove from STL to CHI. In hindsight, I should have taken F-150 instead.(They were the only vehicles left)

I'm not really sure that making them less "girly" gains much. Women will still buy them because they are cute and VW should target that market as much as possible. If I was looking for a FWD fun car, I'd look elsewhere in their lineup.

Buh?

My PT never gave me fits. Yes it did love fuel, and the styling was not for everyone (I dare you to find a car that appeals to everyone). I disliked it because I bought it new and man did I learn to hate depreciation. That's why it is beaters for me from now on.

My old GF had one of those. Very cramped inside (admittedly I'm 6'4"), and the interior is of just awful quality - reminds me of an 80's GM car. Also very noisy, slow, and numb-feeling behind the wheel. FWIW she loved it and recently bought another one when hers was totaled. I think this was entirely an aesthetic preference, but to each his own.

It's missing a rainbow sticker on the rear. No matter how you try to 'man up' the interior by removing the vase & flower and chucking in some gauges, it's still more fruity than a 50lb sack of Apples.

Depends which vehicle it is. My Honda Civic's depreciation worked out to only 10% per year when it was written off, so buying new wasn't much worse than buying used. For something like a Dodge Neon, it's worth 40% less the second it drives off the lot, so getting it used makes a lot more sense.
