"Iraq broke down relations completely," said Zlobin, adding that the Russian people turned quickly on Americans when the United States led a coalition to invade Iraq despite its failure to get a U.N. resolution, which Russia opposed. "It's become a state policy to hate Americans."

Good job, Bush. Good job.

What an asshat we have as a President. See what non-thinking ideologues do when they run the show?

I had a similar thread already earlier, about US loosing friends. Trend in Europe is, that everybody who is against US policies is a good guy... wanna win the next election? Be anti-American!

Let's hear it for President Cheney! He puts the 'dip' in diplomacy! I wonder how many years it will take to repair the damage done to our international standing. 10? 20? It's so nice to know that our grandchildren will be left with not only a huge financial burden, but all the political fallout from the neocon agenda.

I seriously question the sanity of anyone who votes for this slimeball in Nov.

:disgust:

Were the Russians ever really our friends? We have Israel as a true and loyal friend. That should be enough.

HA! Yeah...with friends like Israel.....

Anyway, Russia was never truly a friend but we were at peace with them. We're on a slippery slope back to tension and, who knows, violence? Time to nip it in the bud.

This is where diplomacy comes in. And, sadly, this administration lacks any. Well, Colin Powell could have done great things but the hawks and ideologues pretty much snuffed him out.

True true, but we need the Russians as our allies. They have massive amounts of land that one day could become ours.

"back to tension" implies there was a time period without tension.

We drove the Russians into the ground once and we will do it again.
Remember friends life and politics is a zero sum game.

I don't think things have been tense for the last several years. The Cold War is gone.

Wrong.

I'm a moderate that leans to being a Republican. I've seen the light by having an open mind and not toeing any party line.

It's obvious how Bush has worked to destroy our country. I can't remember a time when we've been more polarized. Maybe right after Vietnam but I was only 9 or so when that finally ended so I don't really remember the political thoughts then.

Right, so the past 25 years that you can remember are the only ones that matter in your mind. Like I said, you are not thinking.. you are reacting to a situation your don't fully comprehend. Here's a clue, actions of your grandparents, their parents, and their parents parents are still having effect on us til this day. Bush hasn't changed World Politics in 3.5 years in office. Whats happening is much more complex than that. But, like you said, you would have no idea because you think the world began in 1978.

I'm sure Colin Powell would have been able to reverse 2000+ years of hatred in the Muslim community. I mean, there has pretty much never been any hatred of violence in the past 2000 years in the Middle East.. Pretty much all of it started when Bush took office. Up until then, the Middle East lived in peace with itself and its neighbors.

We need to get rid of Bush to repair some of these dying friendships.

Bush, the great divider in the US...but the great uniter for the rest of the world.

As far as getting relations between the U.S. and Arab nations onto a peaceful path, sure he could have. Look at Iran and how much the youth there want democracy. What has Bush done to tap into that? Oh, yeah, he labeled Iran one of the Axis of Evil countries.

Nice....

What kind of hatred, specifically, was there in the Middle East for the past 2000+ years?

he is doesn't seem to be too well informed. the muslim religion is not 2000 years old. i think he might have been bush's study partner. ;)
