New bed or new mattress pad?

I bought one of these about 1.5 years ago http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden...6/product.html

and it worked well for a while but it seems a bit too soft now and it doesn't feel as great as it used to. How much of this is due to the mattress pad vs the bed itself?

Would replacing the mattress pad with a similar/better one be worth it? Or is it time to just splurge on a new bed/mattress (not preferable)

Go to Costco (or Sam's) and pick up a new memory foam mattress.

$499 for a queen.

$699 for a Cal King.

What do you currently have under that 3-inch mattress pad?

My personal choice would be replacing the less expensive part, which would be the pad - but it might not be the best for the long-term. Depends on the bed, I suppose.

How does this compare to an actual $500 mattress?

And this replaces the entire mattress, rather than stacks on it?

I bought one of Costco's memory foam mattresses last year. Best mattress I've ever had. It replaces the entire mattress. It's the same as much more expensive Temper-pedic mattress.

We need a new King mattress. No costco nearby (yet) but we do have a sams. How is sleeping on a memory foam mattress? Seems like it would "conform" and just leave a big sinkhole. Are they really comfortable?

It takes some getting used to. Memory foam doesn't bounce like a regular spring mattress...which is another thing you have to get used to (especially for non-sleeping bedroom activities). It's not like a sinkhole, but it does conform to your body. The weird thing is you will hardly move at all while sleeping...and the commercials aren't exaggerating when they claim you don't feel your partner moving around on the mattress.
