Complaints on the Beastie Boys' message board: Text

I'm sorry, but fvck that. If I can't put the songs onto my HDD-based mp3 player or listen to the CD while I'm at work in the media-player I choose, then I'm done buying CDs. Hell, the copy protection itself (and its strategy of creating non-error-correcting irregularities in the tracks) disqualifies the CD from conforming to Philips' CDDA standard.

That's what I recommend doing. If trying to do the right thing by buying CDs results in frustration and a reduction in value (i.e. not being able to play the CD where you want to play it), then forget doing the right thing. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Too bad. I like their older music. But I paid for it damnit and its now MY property to do with as I like. There is no license agreement on the cover saying I cant make copies for my own personal use.

There are ways to beat the protection.

I'm sure the Beastie Boys is just trying to protect itself from people like me and my friends--
We steal music, now you guys have to pay. BWAHAHAHAHAAA suckaz!

Wrong, you don't own the music, just the right to own a copy of it and listen to that copy. You do not own the music and that doesn't automatically give you the right to duplicate it.

There's no disclaimer that says you can't bring a camcorder into a movie theater, but you can bet they'd nail your ass to the floor if they caught you recording a movie.

Yea yea yea, fair use laws and this and that.

I mean, I don't like it, it sucks, but truth is truth. People can't fool themselves into thinking they deserve something just because they believe something's unfair. Not trying to preach or anything 😛

I believe fair use laws actually allow you to make copies for personal use. So it's not a feeling of entitlement.
Yes it's a grey area right now, but they shouldn't be able to restrict your usage of the media.

Wrong, I own the copy of music. I would never agree otherwise.

This is why I am no longer going to make a fair consumer purchase of musical CDs. I was trying to be fair to the artists and producers, but making albums with only 1 good song, and 12-16 crap songs just doesn't cut it. Now they have this copyright bullshiet going on....

The music industry is basically bending the consumers over and shoving a bunch of crap down... you get the idea. Time to fight back! We want music purity and enjoyment (MORE than 1 good song per CD) and lower prices (The costs of making CDs has gone down, while the price has relatively stayed the same)

If the CDs have tons of good songs (like Tupacs All Eyez On Me) and the price comes a bit down, I'll buy CDs.

I basically agree with the general idea here. I can't stand buying a CD with 2 good songs on it, and then 11 others that were thrown together haphazardly just to fill space. Now, if an artist I truly enjoy, and think does excellet work, I'll buy the entire CD. ie I bought all of Tool's CDs, Metallica's CDs (even through they're downward plunge..), Ani DiFranco CDs, etc... but this constant attempt by the recording industry to steam roll any actions taken by consumers to force quality product simply irks me. So, until things start getting better (quality up, prices down) .. I guess I'm on my own for music...

Have you personally tried it on this new CD? Reason is I was actually planning on BUYING the new Beastie' CD and the VelvetRevolver CD today.

I immediately rip all my CDs to 320KB/s MP3s and do what I wish w/them from there. The original CD basically gets played once before going into storage.

How ironic considering Tool is the worst offender out there when it comes to filler tracks 😛 I know what you're saying and I love Tool too but it just struck me as sort of funny 😛

Keep in mind, recording artists, for the most part, make very little of the revenue from cd sales. Generally 5-10%. Big names like Metallica make more, so it's understandable that they take a bigger stance against piracy, seeing as how Metallica in particular is all about the benjamins. This is going through the RIAA - if you don't go through them, you get no raido / phlegMTV airplay, and so nobody finds out about you / buys your stuff.

...And if you try to download it you will get sued by the freaking RIAA. @(#*(*&E@#(*&(*@&~~~~!!!!!

After you have bought the CD of course and find out that you can't rip it to put on MP3 player.

Just put a sticker along the outer rim. Make sure it covers up to the outer line and it should play just as normal. I did this with my gorillaz cd and it worked just fine for playing on my computer. Mods if you have any problem with me posting this please either remove or pm me and I will.

Nah, a miniscule percentage of people who download music are caught, and at that generally only the type with 1k+ mp3s in their shared directory, gaily filling AIM chat rooms with 'u', 'ur', and 'plz', and doing other stuff reminiscent of Einstein 😉 It would eat into the RIAA's precious profits too much to actually go after people in force, so they bust a few old ladies & little kids and publicize it. They're like that tiny little Australian lizard that has those giant ears and extends them when scared to look 10x its actual size.

I was about to get this Album BTW. :UBER MAD!!:
Im also reading that you can get the UK version of it though that doesn't have the DRM built in.....Ill find that somewhere I guess.
