new bar

So a bar around me has new owners and changed its name and theme and such...as well as the specials.

The Wednesday night special you ask? No cover, $2 pitchers all night, free pizza 10-12

woweeee

Yea, the bar they bought had a pretty bad reputation (basically it sucked and no one went), so I'm sure they're just trying to draw in new customers.

All I know is I am taking advantage of it every goddamn wednesday until they take it away.

We had a bar here that used to do $1 well drinks from 7-8 every night, then on Thursdays they had $1 drafts the whole night. We'd go get loaded up on long islands, then drink draft beer the rest of the night.

After they got really popular (ie: so packed you couldn't get more than 6 long islands in the hour they were $1), they stopped doing the $1 drafts and started charging cover. People stopped going and within a year, the bar was out of business.

Moral of the story: If you're going to do cheap drink specials to get people going there, you better keep them or they'll find a better bar.

Yeah, there was this one place here in Downtown Greenvile, can't recall the name to save my life because they were only around for two months, but it was heaven. You see, the bartender, who I believe was also the owner, always said "Don't worry about it man" every time I went to close out my tab. We're talking $200 to $300 a night for some of our outings. I always asked twice to be sure, but he always insisted, so I obliged. Who was I to insult him by paying him when he insisted on comping it????

God I miss that place!

Sounds like he wanted you to stick around after closing time...baby. 😉

The Wednesday special at a bar I went to one time was cheap beer and free entry if one wears pajamas. The bar was filled with hot girls in lingerie. My friend and I decided we should have always gone to that bar.

Specials like that are usually a failure in the long term, they're often a last gasp effort before a bar goes belly up. They tend to draw the same cheapskates who want to get drunk on watery beer and gorge themselves on free pizza until they puke, but won't spend a dime on anything else. That sort of clientele drives away people with money and the willingness to spend it.

The secret of running a successful bar IS NOT to get a bar full of guys looking for a cheap buzz, it's to get a bar full of hot girls. Once you have that you'll have a bar full of guys spending money on overpriced drinks.

My favorite special around here:

Progressive rails

Hour 1: 50 cent rails
Hour 2: $1 rails
Hour 3 and beyond: $2 railes

dude, its a bar smack in the middle of two college campuses. You bring people in there by having cheap specials. Otherwise no one will come, ever.

and its also obviously not a last grasp since its new owners and they just had their grand re-opening two weeks ago.

nothing beats what we had in binghamton. Tuesday nights $0.10 beers, yes a dime a beer (had to buy 10 at a time), then go next door and its $4.00 all you can eat wings, which you could share!

gaining 60 lbs in 4 years FTW!

Which two campuses and which bar? I used to live in Philly up until ~5 months ago.

Ahhh, reminds me of the $3 pitchers every Thursday at the bar near my house during college. Nothing like seeing 8 guys sitting down all at once with 8 pitchers of Killian's or Oberon.

They also had pitchers of long island for like $4, as I recall.
