Any tried the new tech demos? Only TreasureChest will run on my GeForce 3, as the other three claim to require N-patch support and Pixel Shaders 1.4 when run. Shouldn't DX 8.1 have software emulation for these modes?

well lets see.. it doesn't have software emulation for pixel shader 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3.. why should they start with 1.4?

I guess I don't give a damn right now if your GF3 can't do 1.4 (hell you shouldn't even give a damn, there aren't any games out using 1.4). if I really wanted to see the nature scene in 3DMark 2001, maybe I would care, but u know what? it doesn't matter :) it's just a freakin demo.

They could spend the time and money they did on these useless demos on drivers.

lol then people like RolyL wouldn't see a reason to buy a Radeon 8500 (cause the demo's are there to demonstrate it's superiority).

besides, I doubt their driver team could work much faster than they already are. even if nVidia's driver team was over there, I don't think we'd see much improvement in terms of frequency, and in terms of how much better a driver is over the previous one.

i think i posted that already elsewhere...

from a PR point of view its totally GOOD that the developers over at ATI focus on these DEMOS and the same time on openGL support (Quake)...what would YOU do if you'd release a piece of new hardware...OF COURSE you would want people to see what it can do (demos)..and you would support the game MOST people compare and benchmark with: Quake.

However...their timing (rellease of card <---> drivers) is questionable...and of course i agree the drivers need still work...*especially* the D3D support.

Btw. calling those demos useless....grin.....i think they're AWESOME....finally showing what a modern gfxcard is able to do assuming the developers support its features, especially truform !!!!!

If you know what n-patches (truform) really is..and that it is implemented in hardware now the FIRST time......this is an huge oppurtunity to boost the visual appearance of 3D games/apps...this is one REAL improvement (together with dx8.1) instead of only focus on plain corespeed and similar things.

I hope that many developers dont miss out this opportunity and support truform/n-patches for better and more natural looking 3d games/appz to come in the future !

(I am and was always tired of these edgy and unnatural looking 3d objects in 90% of games....)

Cant wait for my radeon and getting those demos, too....and from what i know there are already games in the make w/ real (active) truform support - and not only 'patches'.

Yeah, great one Soccerman. My original post was so outrageous that it necessarily solicited such bitterness and criticism.
