Cool.. finally released them... It's been about 6 weeks since the last ones and these have been out in beta for awhile.

Thanks

Anybody test them out to see if they increased performance, or mainly just a bug fix.....

Not a bug fix per se - it is an optimization designed to support the forthcoming XP Service Pack 1.

The strange thing for me is that any OpenGL game ends up being very, very dark. Especially Quake 3. I don't even play them in XP with the current driver set.

Oh well, guess I should be doing work instead.

Chadder007, type /set cg_drawFPS 1 in the console to get RtCW's FPS display. :)

Kinesis: I experienced the same problem, but turning up the Game Gamma in the Catalyst driver controls remedied the situation.

Not being a "gamer," I could care less about speed and benchmarks. My hallmark is stability. These new drivers have that in spades!

AIW users be careful ... you have to download the right WDM drivers, and install them in the right sequence. Acording to the release notes, you will have to do this:
B) PRIOR to USING tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe

We suggest the following installation order,

1- tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe
2- DO NOT RESTART Windows
3- Recommended ATI Display Driver
4- RESTART Windows

The Recommended ATI Display Drivers may be installed prior to installing tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe, however you may encounter UNKNOWN DEVICES during NEW HARDWARE detection."
Then procede to install the Control Panel.

O got my card yesterday, and installed the new drivers right away (and in the wrong order), which caused problems are thought were with the card. I'll post some results of the new drivers/MMC after some downloads are done.

Big thumbs up here.

For some reason VCD playback is less....."flaky"..then with the previous set. Hard to explain what I mean, but I'm happy.

I was hesitant to try these until ATi released them, but they are certainly another quality set.

Just to save some poor AIW peep out there some major hassles, the 6125 WDM driver dated: 06/22/02 that is currently listed on ATI's website is NOT the same driver that was originally posted back on 06/22/02. But you definitely need to download and install THIS driver, do not use the older 6125 WDM driver dated: 06/22/02 that was originally available on 06/22/02; if you do, like I did, you'll end up with 6 unknown devices because the WDM capture drivers will not install correctly.

One way to distinguish between the two files is by size: the *newer* file is 2,928 KB and the *older* file is 2,814 KB. The icon for the files are different as well but the file name/dates are the SAME!! You would hope that these ATI clowns would make this process a little less painful these days...but it's SOS with these @ucks!!!!

The installation order that I followed which worked perfectly:

1. Uninstall the existing Control Panel, do not reboot.
2. Uninstall the existing ATI display driver, reboot.
3. During the subsequent reboot, ignore the 6 WDM PnP h/w device windows by canceling each of them; you'll end up with the default ATI display driver installed with 6 unknown devices.
4. Install the latest 6125 WDM capture driver (currently posted on ATI), do not reboot.
5. Install the latest 6118 Catalyst display driver, do not reboot.
6. Install the latest 3017 Control Panel, reboot. During the shutdown, click OK on any ATI-related device errors, to be expected. The system should reboot normally and then during the boot process all 6 WDM capture devices should install correctly.

Do I actually have to install the ATI Control Panel build 6.13.10.3017 drivers before I install the Catalyst drivers? I've never install their Control Panel before (I have a Radeon 32DDR).

thank HeinekinMan for your descript procedure.

Thanks I was having the same problem.

I'm wondering about the MMC 7.7.0.1. Should it be installed after all of the forementioned is completed. I noticed that I still have MMC 7.6.0.0 And MMC 7.7.0.0 in my add remove control panel, along with the DVD 7.6.0.0.

thanks

iluvdeal,

You install the Control Panel AFTER installing the latest Catalyst display driver. But make sure you uninstall your current ATI display driver before installing the new, go into Windows Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall your current ATI display driver and ATI Control Panel (this may not be necessary as you say you've never installed the Control Panel).

I don't recall when ATI first started doing this, having us install the Control Panel separately from the display driver installation. It's a pain but it's nice having the features of it. If you've never used them or don't know what they look like, you can access them from Display Properties (if it's installed):

My Computer -> Control Panel -> Display Properties -> Settings tab -> Advanced button You should see a whole bunch of ATI tabs allowing you to access/set a variety of features Color, OpenGL, 3D, monitor settings, etc.

rb56,

I haven't attempted MMC 7.7.0.1 yet! From the looks of it, this is a full install requiring the uninstalling of my existing MMC 7.7.0.0 which is working just fine! If I remember right, the MMC 7.7.0.0 was an UPDATE which required the existance of MMC 7.6.0.0 which would explain why you still see it in the Add/Remove Programs list. The DVD player is still at 7.6.0.0 I believe...
