though i can't remember where, i heard that new ati video cards will be out within the next couple of weeks. i just bought a radeon vivo, but for $118, and refurb, at that. should i cancel that order and wait for the new cards to come out and drive down the price of the 7500 aiw? or just buy it now at $175 'cause it'll be a while before the prices go down (if the rumor that new ati cards are out soon is false)? thanks!

If you look at how much they dropped the 8500 in price in the last week, I can't help think that they are going to release something new, and not just responding to Nvidia's new GF4 which is going to devalue the GF3 based cards.

If you just got to have that new card now, you're stuck. But prices always drop as time goes on. I would wait another week at least.

The only ATi cards coming out soon are the 128mb Radeon 8500 (that's why the 64mb Radeon 8500 price took a massive nosedive) and the the announcing of the RV250 based cards in mid-March.

well i'm glad the 8500 took a nosedive. now i can afford it... hehe :p anyway... from all the reviews, seems that the extra 64mb of ram doesn't have much of a performance boost. i guess its all marketing eh? if my understanding is incorrect, can u please post a link so i can read more :)

The Radeon8500XT, and Radeon 8800 are coming out shortly.

Based on the RV250 core, what modification have been made made to the RV250 are unknown.

R8500XT: 300/300, 128MB DDR, MSRP $199
R8800: 350/350, 128MB DDR MSRP $299

I sure hope you are right Rand. If the 8500xt will be $199 retail, then you could probably pick it up for like $160. I can't wait to upgrade from my Geforce 2 Pro. Any idea on release dates?

If you think the 7500 AIW will drop in price soon, buy now with Amex Blue, and price adjust later. I'm doing that with me 8500 that was like $80 more when I bought it two weeks ago.

Dates?
A month at minimum, I'd expect probably 2 months or so though.
I've heard it's supposed to be officially announced during CeBit in March, but that's only a rumour.
