I was really hoping an A64 system would run cooler than my P4, but it runs hotter, boots at 50c, averages about 53C. My old P4 booted at 47C, so not much better. Any chance it's reading it wrong? I checked two different ways. Got some AS5 on there too.

Both readings gave you ~50C? What were the two methods? Anyways, I've read other posts where temps were around that high with their amd64 chip. Before I added any water cooling, my amd64 2800 ran around 37C idle and 47C load on stock cooling. What are your load temps?

My A64 3200 runs at 48c fully loaded. I used stock cooling except for I used some AS2 instead of the thermal pad that comes with it. Seasons are changing though and my room temp is down near 73f so that may be a factor.

If could also be that your MB isn't reporting the CPU temps correctly. I bought a Chaintech VNF3-250 a month ago and the temps were higher than it was in an Abit board with the same CPU and cooler. Checked for a bios update and there was one specifically for that problem, so there may be one for your board too.

It's a DFI Lanparty NF3 250GB.

It's 58C on max load, no reason it should be as far as i can tell. Tried using Motherboard Monitor, ITE Smart Guardian, and of course checking in the bios. Also touched the heatsink and it was fairly warm. If temps are actually that high, i must have a heat curse on my head...or something :p - Anyways, if these temps are right, i'll probably end up selling my new cpu/mobo/ram, don't want to deal with another hot system, just too many problems. Then i can use the money i get back to buy a nice water cooling rig maybe, though i really don't like the idea of water cooling, it's probably the only way to go.

Anything else i can do?

Hey, I'm having the same problem. I got the DFI board hoping I'd be able to overclock nicely (it is a great board for that by the way).

I get 50C idle and 60C after running heavy usage. I don't understand it, I'm using the one all copper 92mm Zalman cooler and Arctic Silver 5. I had a K8N-E Deluxe before and it said CPU was 35C Idle and lower 40s load.

I've tried reseating it and it didn't really change anything. I can't figure out whats wrong.

Against my better judgement I went ahead and OC'ed up to 2400MHz and it runs the same temps as stock, but I'm still concerned that its too hot. I don't know if its being reported wrong or whats going on as even under load at 2.4 its perfectly stable.

This seems just so strange to me that temps could change 15 degrees when I installed the HSF the same way and even tried it differently after that with no change.

Since the summer has passed, I get low to mid 30's on my A64 3400 on boot with about a 10C increase under load. That's using the stock cooler with the included thermal pad too. I did pick up a Thermalright 948U heatsink, but I've not installed it yet. I also picked up two different speed 92mm fans to go onto it (couldn't decide which to go with). One of these days, I'll have to install it. I hope it's before winters end...

Hey jacktackle, I found out that some of these boards suffer from a wrong temp readout. Should be fixed in a newer BIOS at some point.

Check out the threads in the motherboard forum for more info and maybe updates about it.

Ok thanks.

One guy (with the same mobo) told me he updated the bios and his temps dropped 10c. I don't have a floppy drive so i haven't been able to test it out, guess i'll have to steal one from my mom's computer. I'm going to try one of these Beta bioses i think, though i'm not so sure using a custom bios is a good idea. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yeah, I emailed DFI last night (like around 8 central time) and had a reply later. I was impressed, because whoever it was that answered had tested temps on three different boards and sent me pictures to show what temps he was getting, saying that the ones I was seemed wrong considering my cooling and temps I had with my old board. He also said that he found out a few boards do have an issue with reporting the temps, but that a BIOS update would take care of it (which I already knew at that point).

Alright, kickass! Updated to the latest bios from DFI and my temps dropped exactly 10C - They didn't actually drop, they were always that way, but at least now it's reading them right. Booting up at 39c now :D

Got it from here: the 9/14 updated bios: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/...TUS_FLAG=A&SITE=NA

surprised this hasn't been talked about much, i had a helluva time figuring it out.

What do you use for the setting for MBM? The DFI Lanparty UT 250GB isnt on the list of supported motherboards.
