So you aren't running SLI?

No not yet. I was building a rig so I decided to go with the newer technology. I will go with 2 cards once they are more readily available. I'm telling you I don't know what you guys consider fast but this thing flies.

Nice rig, wish I could throw that much money on one system.

Really not too expensive. It cost me a little over $1400. I already had a Dell Ultrasharp 18.1" lcd monitor and a retail copy of windows xp pro.

Yeah I realize that. My intention is not to use 2 6600gts. I will wait for the next series after the 6800. My single 6600gt can run anything out there anyway.

Congrats!!! Your rig is a lot like mine, which I just finished two days ago. Here're my specs:

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 3500+ (Winchester)
2 X 512 Corsair PC3200
Leadtek 6600GT
Enermax Noisetaker 600W
Coolermaster Praetorian Case (black)
2 X Seagate 7200.7 160GB (NCQ)
On-board sound (so far)

I just ran 3DMark05, and got 3840. Did you have a chance to run that yet? I was wondering if my results are on the money.

I agree, this is by far the fastest machine I've ever owned. It's exceeded my expectations. I'm also going to wait for a next-gen vid card; I'm happy enough with this one in the games I play.

Your's mirrors my rig, except I have 2 Leadtek 6600GT's and a Thermaltake Shark Case, yet I'm having trouble with my SLI-Deluxe board, it fried my hard drives :S. I need to RMA it back for a new one...gosh the luck I've been getting eh?

Yeesh, that sounds awful. I can't tell you how happy I was that I didn't have any faulty components at all. Out of curiosity, did you get around to running 3DMark05 on that dual setup before things, er, hit the fan?

Actually a 6800GT will pull ahead by a fair margin at high res with AA/AF

Yep, I think that's for sure. Still, two 6600GTs may shovel frames better than an Ultra, it seems, with AA X AF turned off (and at higher resolutions I don't think those are much needed anyway). This at a price less than that of a single GT. I'm not arguing for the value of 6600GTs running in parallel, but I personally don't see much value in running AA at higher resolutions. It doesn't make stuff look scads better-- a little better if you're really looking, maybe. I definitely would never spend a bunch more on a graphics card just to get better AA support at UXGA.

No, it never detected the hard drives.

How do you know your hard drives are fried? I'm assuming you supplied the correct drivers on a floppy for the controller you were using, yes? (I'm assuming you got SATA drives.) Is there any chance that your SATA drives are hooked up to the wrong connectors on the board? I used the Nvidia controller, and hooked my drives up to the black ones. I then had to hunt through sparse documentation to find the correct driver disk files, then hit F6 during installation etc.

Note that that single 6800GT (pci-e!!! ->$460-$470 cheapest@ newegg/gameve) cost a LOT more then twice the price of a 6600GT (~$180 @ same stores)

No I didn't run 3Dmark05 yet but I plan on it. My study looks like a cumputer shop with parts and boxes and manuals all over the place.

Alright, bought a new hard drive, everything up and running beautifully.

3Dmark03 - 18033
3Dmark05 - 5562

Rig:
Asus A8N SLI-Deluxe
Althon64 3500+
Maxtor Ultra16 SATA 250GB HD
2x Leadtek Winfast PX6600GT
1 gig (2x512) Mushkin Lv2 VII PC3200

What hard drive did you end up purchasing?

I am curious because I als have the a8n-sli (BIOS 1003.005) and have been having issues with my newest disk drive a DiamondMax 10. My IDE disks work flawlessly however... I am running off an older IDE disk now, only every now and then does my SATA2 drive ever get recoginzed, and even then it will be really unstable.

My older sata drives seem to work fine however...
