Though I think the US doesn't even need the size of Military it currently has, if the US is going to go around the World invading countries, it definitely will need a larger Military.

Actually if we remove our troops from where they have been requested, I think our military would probably be ok(Germany,UK,kosovo, bosnia, japan, korea...).

Why the hell would you want to get rid of the Marines. Don't answer, it was rhetorical. The Navy's mandated end strength is 8K less this year than last. We are giving early outs to meet it.

Yeah, I read the article this morning. Wonder if Congress will authorize the funds?

He will have to get by Rumsfeild first... Rumsfeild real goal is to "downsize and modernize" or atleast it was before the Iraq war...

Rumsfeld is a warhawk, not a CEO. The PNAC defense guide never planned for downsizing - but expansion and upgrading.

Rumsfeld will only go along with this if Hallburton gets to be the subcontractor for the administration of the size increase
and the provider of the designated personell - for a proffit.

Read the book 'Catch 22' by Joseph Heller, you can recognize all the players.
I said book - not the movie.

Another good book is 'Jonny Got His Gun' - puts a perspective on a person in a war.

Anybody out there still capable of reading ? Here's another - 'Street Without Joy'

Modernizing yes, but Rumsfeld has been pretty adament about keeping numbers where they are at now.

Excellent book. It has some very good insights into insurgency conflicts in a jungle environment. If you contrast what Bernard Fall says about the war with what Col Hackworth relates about his prosecution of the war in Steel My Soldiers' Hearts, it's quite interesting.
