There isn't a huge difference in performance between teh Dual 2GHz G5 and the Quad G5. I find that interesting.

Wow, the h264 test on the Intel core Duo really blows. It did really well on the other tests though.

He says the Intel mac seemed sluggish. I think I am going to have to try one out myself. I'll check one out at my local Apple store. I may hold off on a MacBook Pro until then.

Looks like Apple hasn't written an optimized encoder for x86 yet, as it obviously should be doing much better. If that's the case it does surprise me that Apple is so far behind the ball though.

I used the imac today and in general usage it was faster than any mac I've ever been on, even a dual 2ghz g5 w/ 256mb video seemed more sluggish than the 2ghz core duo imac with a 128mb x1600. Expose was more fluid than I have ever seen it, and web pages were extremely snappy and didn't have the usual delay that I felt when browsing with my mac mini. I came away very impressed, and will be ordering one this week. 🙂
