Apple eMac

Here's the iMac everyone thought Apple was going to release when they came out with the iLamp. It inludes a 17" crt as well as features not seen on other iMacs like audio-in and video-out. It's apparently an educational-only product starting at $999 for the plain CD-ROM version. This product is no surprise considering the new flatpanel iMac started at a fairly high pricepoint that didn't please educators and when LCD prices went up Apple actually raised prices. It was either lose the educational market or come out with another CRT iMac.

While the iLamp is very cool, I'd rather have this one in some ways. This one is much cheaper obviously and has a higher resolution at 1280x960. The iLamp's 1024x768 resolution is cramped.

Unfortunately, you can't the SuperDrive with the eMac, and thus iDVD (which requires an internal Pioneer DVD burner) is useless. You can use other software with external burners, but the one people recommend is DVD Studio Pro, which is like $1000 or something.

Nice lack of speaker grills, I would give it a week in a school setting before a finger or pen kills them

nice....apple's picking up steam lately, no doubt.

i like this:

<< a Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW), which is just what students need for storing classroom projects on data CDs and for watching DVD movies >>

yeah, that's exactly what students need...to watch DVD movies in class...haha
