New Antec Tru 330

I just got an Antec Tru 330 today from my girlfriend as an early Christmas present. I am a little perplexed about the 12v line, however. Before I had a 300W Sparkle PSU. The 12V rail only outputs 120W (10A) on that one; on the Antec, it outputs 204W (17A). According to MBM, the Antec supplies a minimum of 11.31v on the 12v rail. My 300W did better than this. I'm not really worried about it, because I know that's not an incredible loss in voltage (About 6%). I was just curious if the Antec just throttles the voltage lower or what? The average supply is 11.6 and the maximum is 11.8. I haven't really done a lot of stability tests yet, but I did run 3DMark for about 2 hours while I was sledding =).

On the bright side, this PSU is a bit quieter. The sound is a lot different, more mechanical. Also, it lowered my case temps a bit thanks to a second fan over the heatsink. Also, the motherboard connector was super long so I could route it away from the heatsink/fan. As a result, I'm getting better case temps and CPU temps. Time to turn up the heat.

What kind of system is this in? Perhaps your other lines aren't loaded enough.

That's why power supplies have a minimum current rating, too.. I agree, 11.31v does seem a little low though. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you notice instability.

This is in The Moobox in my signature.

I'm not worried, just curious as to why this would be the case. Also, I plan on getting a new HDD soon (Which is why I got the new PSU in the first place). That will add more strain on the 12v line. I want to see what that does to the 12v minimum. No instabilities as of yet. I just got in a mini session of NWN. =)

BTW.. your girlfriend is cool, she buys you hardware. 🙂

My girlfriend would probably do it, but she wouldn't know what to get... lol

Yeah, she doesn't know what to get me either, but I told her what to get. I'm hard to buy gifts for, so she had to go with hardware. =)

I've built at least 10 boxes with a TruePower PSU in them this year. EVERY ONE shows the 12V rail at 11.3-11.4V in MBM5. If you check the voltage off of a molex connector with a multimeter it will show almost exactly 12.0V. Must be some sort of a bug with TruePower + MBM. Check it yourself for some piece of mind.
