new Antec Sonata - won't power up

Hoping for some ideas here....

Last night swapped my cards and drives into a new Antec Sonata with:
- new Athlon XP 2500+
- new 512 RAM
- used (new to me, bought off a friend) MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo

Plug it all in and nothing when I hit the power switch. No leds, no fans.

I removed all cards except the vid card, disconnected floppy, hard drive, cd, front panel connectors. Still nothing. There are no stray screws, etc.

Could this new case have a DOA power supply? Is there any way I can test the PS?

The mobo worked for my buddy so I assume it's ok. If it weren't, wouldn't the PS fan still come on?

ANY ideas would be appreciated.

1) is the motherboard mounted on standoffs (yes = 🙂)

2) did you check the mobo's manual to verify that the case's POWER SW wire is really on the correct pins? I believe for your mobo it's the ones indicated here.

3) confirm the rocker switch on the rear of the PSU is on the 1 position 😀

4) ditto for your surge supressor 😱

5) check the rear I/O area to make sure none of the springy EMI contacts are getting into the network or USB ports

6) ensure that your video card is completely bottomed out in the AGP slot. You shouldn't be able to see any of the gold contacts peeking out of the AGP slot.

7) and one other thing: if you plugged the case's front-USB ports into the MSI, unplug them. I've seen some credible rumors that MSI has goofed up their USB-header pinout 🙁

Good luck and welcome to the Forums 🙂

🙂 Checked and double checked, also verified the manual with what's printed on the board just in case the manual was wrong. Nice touch with the pic!

😕Never thought of that, I'll check tonight.

🙂 I didn't, but I did have an internal reader plugged to the board, which I unplugged.

Good luck and welcome to the Forums 🙂

Thanks for the post (and the welcome)!

Well, I scrounged an older mboard to try in the new case last night and it worked great. Guess that means the K7N2 is dead. I'll be taking that up with my buddy who sold it to me. 🙂

Thanks for the help!!

For kicks, try booting with it not installed in the case. It is possible that it was shorting out somewhere that you did not detect.

yea, i thgouth i had mobo/psu problems at first...
K8vse with an antec case...the dragon or soemthign like that

apparently my risers or soemthing wasn't grounded correctly, and i booted it up perfectly on a cardboard box.

Man, i wish that computer still worked....its gone mad now stupid errors all over the place.
