Thought this might be interesting. At my work place we are starting to get the Antec case units with the ECR P1 connectors on the power supply unit. While not important now, it will soon come to be as Pentium 4s and maybe AMD chips will be using this extra 12v lead to supply juice to the CPU. If you do buy a new case, might want to check to see if this connector is on there to "protect your investment". The connector sorta looks like this:

hey there

These extra PSU leads have actually been around for a fair while - I recently upgraded an old Dell P2-266, and the PSU in that machine had extra leads - the 12v one, and also an auxillary one with +3.3 and 5v supplies on it. Also, the new 330watt Enermax has the exact same leads - I suspect this is quite an old specification....And the Klamath 266's, for all their heat output, did not need this extra 12v connector....

Interesting. You sure it's the right one? The ECR P1 specifications weren't added until recently. Handled a couple of Dells before and don't ever remember seeing a 12v lead although I did see that extra AT sytle aux. power before.

Yeah, definately that one - the board in question was a Dell/Intel built LX Board...I don't know anything about the ECR Specs, but I do know the board had these connectors, and was built around 2 years ago... This was part of the reason I bought a new power supply for this Dell machine when I upgraded it, since I had never seen this power configuration before, and wasn't sure about the pin layout of the ATX power connector.
