Here is the system at Overstock

link

Use the 15% off click through for "new" customers. Can be found lots of places.

It doen't mention the motherboard model number, but says it a Gigabyte and it seems to be the GA-7DX

Find it here (new link thanks Mattt) : Link

Includes the floppy, but not the modem like the other Andara barebones. Will take an Athlon 200 FSB chip up to 1.2 Ghz. The board also includes sound. Up to 2GB Memory, DDR266 or DDR200, 2 DIMM slots

I thought it was odd to have a DDR board that only supported the 200mhz chips, so I did some checking.... The Andara site has a bit more info on the system, as well as the motherboard in it. It still seems like a good deal, particularly with the name brand mo-board and heavy-duty 300watt case.

There is a new $15 off $60 for overstock.com for new customers. I don't know if you can stack the deals though. Can be found at techb@rg@ins

update: can't be stacked.

Some more info on the MB from Gigabyte's site: GA-7DX. Seems to support 266Mhz. And the newest bios indicates support for the XP chips. Looks like a great deal.

Some questions:

Whats the best deal of a processor I can put on this machine? (i.e. who's having a sale?)
I don't want to risk going to PriceWatch..

Also, it says DDR ram. Can I use regular SDRAM PC133 sticks?

<< Some more info on the MB from Gigabyte's site: GA-7DX. Seems to support 266Mhz. And the newest bios indicates support for the XP chips. Looks like a great deal. >>

That's the newer revision 7DX, not this one. Ubid always has such older revision 7DX for low price.

<< this is just a crappy case and a crappy motherboard >>

Thats the most blatent thread crapping I've ever seen. At least explain yourself:|

<< this is just a crappy case and a crappy motherboard >>

Um actually no it's not, my wife has the andara original dealio and it runs XP great! Now on the other hand my Ecsk7s5a board with 1.2tbird puked xp for about a week and a half before I nuked it and went back to 98se...please do NOT make ignorant posts such as yours..

be sure you know who you're dealing with -Andaratech has no ratings @ Resellerratings.com- my experience with the "great little computer" deal of earlier this year was 2 computers with well known startup problems-the "Andara Project" has its' own website. Both cases I got needed to be RMAed, Overstock passes the RMA buck to Andara who doesn't answer emails when it comes to RMAs-so the customer is left holding his bag. It's not such a great deal when you get stuck with their defective junk.Buyer Beware when dealing with these clowns.

logear1, you had a bad experience, but you were in the minority. Most of us have had great experiences with our Andara PC's. Even the startup problems you mention had an easy solution after flashing the BIOS and changing settings. This has been a truly great little Athlon screamer for me and it ran me well under $500 when all was said and done. THAT is a hot deal.

Don't get me wrong, I feel your pain, but I need to stand up for everyone who got a great deal out of this.

I don,t know if the case is as good as the other Andara`s, but you can,t beat the shipping rates overstock charges..( very reasonable, something like 7 bucks to ship a computer)...The guy told me that they couldn,t find anything wrong with atleast 3/4 of the RMA`s...as the last one I got was a return...I had that thing going in maybe a little over a hour...My girl friend got that one and that thing runs like the lords word, thing still surprisizes me, thats one fast little puter...Wish I would of keep one for myself, 3 out of 3 and all of them are doing fine..Overstock didn,t charge me any tax and the first one took the longest to get and that wasn,t but about 5 days..I got no beefs with Overstock or those little Andara`s, they were sold by Micron and they used to be noted for pretty good computers..

Listen:
this mb is the older revision 7DX which only supports 200 fsb, up to Athlon B 1.2, and Overstock.com honestly states it's
Specifications:
Processor support: Socket A, AMD Thunderbird/Duron, up to 1.2GHz
System bus speed: 200MHz

The one you saw at gigabyte website is the newer revision 7DX.

this case is the cheap crappy Codegen 6016 case w/ crappy 300W Codegen PS which can be bought at around $40 shipped from any online store, or at ubid you could win it for as low as $13 + 25 shipping.

This is not a big deal, the price is just right for this outdated overstocked mb + cheap case + floppy drive.

Andara is one of Overstock's supplier, and Overstock is a reputable company, so why worry about their reseller ratings?

i just ordered one
can i install a processor faster than 1.2Ghz with a BIOS update or not?
i'd like atleast 1.4 or 1.5

if a bios update can make it to use athlon c and xp, gigabyte won't release a newer revision 4.3,
7DX rev 4.3 oem version is selling for over $100 at newegg.

I wouldn't go any higher than a 1.2Ghz with this system. The last Andara I built wouldn't even go the 1Ghz it was rated at! :disgust:

This isn't the greatest deal of all time, but it isn't terrible, either. The case is average and a comparable model can be purchased at most local computer stores for around $35. A floppy drive can be had for less than $15 at a local computer store. The motherboard is fairly nice for what it is (and it is better than the BCM GT133KT found in the original Andara bare bones), but it cannot support the 266MHz fsb CPUs, and it does not officially support the highest speed grades (1.3GHz and 1.4GHz) for the 200MHz fsb CPUs. The allure of the original Andara kit was the unique appearance and $73 shipped price tag.

UncleJohn, Season's Greetings to you!
