New American Chopper: Senior vs Junior tonight

I noticed that a repeat is on right now. And another repeat at 8 PM. Then I checked the 9 PM slot and it is a new episode. I thought this was canceled?!?!?

I guess both of them realize the truth. Without the show, their business will probably die.

Anyone else treat this show as some sort of guilty pleasure? I have liked this show since the start.

I watch almost no television, but for some reason love this show. The Senior vs. Junior concept has worked to increase the ratings dramatically.

BTW, here's Paul Jr. Designs latest creation, better than anything his dad is cranking out these days.

I always figured this who fight thing was some big ploy to increase ratings in their dying show.

Who knows? What is real: the father's lawsuit/s against his son, the recent foreclosure action on OCC's HQ by GE Commercial Finance & the liquidation of some of his assets.

I thought that was because he expanded waaaaay too quickly and saturated the market of his crap. His profits were very low by the time the 2 split and when the market crashed in 08, he wasnt able to sell enough bikes to even pay his bills. Sr bought all those expensive machinery tools and now he cant afford to pay the debts. They figured the split would help, but once the market crashed, he was fucked. Then they try to create this drama to help increase show revenue and hope that the increased publicity helps daddy's business.

I honestly see sr business collapsing in a bankruptcy, and going back to where it was years ago in a small shop building to order bikes.

Jason Pohl only seems to know how to design bikes with huge ass tanks. I haven't been too impressed with an OCC bike lately.

From watching OCC evolve, they really went from trying new things into doing things in a more cookie cutter (cost effective) manner to maximize profits over the years. Everything seems to be stock tank, stock frame, stock everything really with a few things CNCed to make it "custom". Ya, it really has turned into modified Harley type crap. Everyyhing is different but only in the paint and trim.

The bike Junior did today had a cool oil tank and the inlaid piece of metal in the fender was somewhat original. Juniors issue is going to be the business model he has.

I'd love to see some minimalistic build by junior. There is a guy out in Nevada I think that
does stuff liek that. Tiny engine but minimalism make the bikes lightweight and fast.

I thought the foreclosure thing was just a tactic OCC used to get a lower interest rate on their loan for the building that was being foreclosed upon.

I never heard of any liquidation of assets. Where did you hear that?

I was watching last seasons, but for some reason never saw an actual final for the season. After Odie got fired wasn't there suppose to be one more?

Good call. Apparently they are abandoning their current headquarters and building a smaller one right next door, likely to protect themselves against creditors, while the recipients of additional tax breaks.

I'd be happy to find out that it was a ploy, but I'm pretty convinced now that the Tuetul family really is that screwed up.

I do agree that Paul Sr. let the popularity of the show go to his head and is now likely headed for at least some major downsizing. I expect that Paul Jr. will be able to keep his company going as long as the show lasts.

Of course it may be all in the editing, but it does seem to me that Paul Jr. is coming around toward being much more responsible that he ever was (or would have become) working for Paul Sr. Dealing with Odie has to have been god-imposed penance for pulling the same stuff on Paul Sr.

I guess that watching this show is something of a guilty pleasure. It's like hearing raised voices through the wall of your apartment. On the one hand, you know you shouldn't be listening...but on the other hand, you're just too curious to know what the heck is happening. I'd like to think that the Turtuls will find a way to pull the family back together, even if it doesn't happen until the cameras are all turned off for a while.

Yep.

It was a strong-arm tactic to pressure the bank when the recession hit.

I suppose these are normal stab-ya-in-the-back-for-a-buck financial decisions.🙂

OH MY GAWD!11!11

One of these days Discovery channel will realize that most people watch those shows for the trades, rather than the bullshit drama they obviously force in.

Cliffnotes for all shows on discovery:
Close up face shot of someone yelling... cut scene to landscape shot... tension background music... nothing happening for 20 seconds, hold landscape shot... something completely ordinary and anticlimatic follows.

West coast customs has the same problem. The drama on that show sucked the life out of it. I just want to see awesome builds. If you are going to do drama you better have the people who are likable and west coast customs does not have that type of crew. This year they say it will be about the builds. So far it been far less OMG we not going to make it in time, this crew sucks and never wants to work when we need them type BS. Who in the hell wants to work 17 hour days. No one wants that and Ryan is a dickhead for pushing that all the time.

Look at a show like pawn stars there no BS drama. They joke with each other and seem to have a good time. It's all about what comes through that door that makes it interesting to watch plus the crew is likable.

Ask why this could be.

Answer: ratings

Documentaries are awesome but the good ones are on DVD or Netflix Streaming. Discvoery has not once aired a documentary that I know of. And the shows may teach you something initially but they all devolve itno dramas. OCC is atleast interesting. It could jsut as easily be on NBC or ABC or some other major network.

Corrolary Plan: Separate Jr from Sr's business, and therefore Sr's Debt load.

Yeah - I could see any good father doing that for his son in a heartbeat.

And is levying one lawsuit after another at your son part of that altruistic plan?

Though Sr. didn't stop payment in order to restructure debt, rather the Teutel clan have a sordid history of forcing bankruptcy to avoid debt entirely. They protect assets by moving them into new buildings under similar names, eventually settling out-of-court with the trustees.

Daniel Teutel's 500k settlement to retain O.C. Ironworks is just one reason why father and son no longer speak. Though what's most curious is how a bankrupt company could afford to perform the same trick twice. Perhaps next season's edition will be titled American Chopper: Behind Iron Bars. 🙂

Reading ahead on episode summaries:

S02E02:
Sr. reconciles with his son Dan.
S02E03:
Jr. wins the appeal and Sr. offers settlement. Also some crap about Sr. being "moved" by Mikey's gallery paintings. FUCK DO I HATE MIKEY AND HIS "ART"
