New AMDs/Pricedrops?

Any word on new AMD processors or price drops in the near future? Saw the 3GHz Athlon II X4 for $99 around New Years and checked today and it's around the same price.

The only new deal around this price point since then is the confusingly named Phenom X4 840, which appears to be identical to the A2s but this one runs at 3.2GHz for $10 more.

I would think that the X6 chips will continue to gradually drop in price until they hit around $100. Bulldozer will supposedly be out in June, but we don't know how much it will cost or how it will perform.

Doesn't Bulldozer require a new socket though? An X6 would be nice...

Where did you hear that figure ?
Most all 3GHz X6's are around $200 ish, so $100 for a x6 isn't going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

An x6 for $100 bucks?? That's a stretch, in fact I think they'd sooner halt production on Thubans than give them away that cheap. When AMD switches focus to bulldozer I predict price's will go up before they go down on AM3 CPU's once availability starts to dwindle.

price would go up? like, you would buy a new chevrolet cavalier 1985 50,000$ today since production stopped?

sorry but thuban x6 cores have nothing special, they were never a match vs their intel counterparts, so i don't see them going up on prices, unless we notice a bad AMD comedy.

not mentioning that at their current prices, only fools buy them.

Well they arent going down in price, there will still be demand for the highest end AM3 CPU you can get, since BD wont be AM3 capable that leaves people with the current x6's as the only upgrade unless they want a new MB and CPU. (and possibly RAM)

No not at all, it's more like paying top dollar for an out of production part for an old car. Phenom II x3's were about 80 bucks while they were in production, now they're about 140 for a retail boxed version if you can find one.

AMD stopped production of the 5850/5870 by replacing them with new GPU's, don't see why that won't happen here when they could just come out with gimped versions of their newer arch like they usually do.

either ways, whatever happens, i care not. Those who buy X6 around 200ish $, it's your money.

Even if you already own an AMD890FX Mobo, it's simply silly to put 200$ into it with something not even close to performance as say, a 2500K SB.

The performance increase you would get from the phenom II you already own to a X6 xxxxt
will be minimal for 200$, like worse investment ever, considering the competition.

Yeah I don't see AMD throwing that much silicon onto the market for so little price. If they had a mountain of inventory then they would, but they've been pretty much on top of their inventory management since the Core2Duo introduction days.

Shareholders are rather unforgiving of a management chain that builds a large inventory, they really thump the stock price on that kind of news. It is better to lose revenue by not having enough supply than to build inventory from the shareholder psychology these days. So supply of X6's are going to be intentionally tight just to avoid the shareholder wrath IMO.

Can't argue with that, I've seen the Phenom II as EOL for quite some time now and the Intel i5/i7 parts floating around at $200 were the proverbial nail in the coffin.

Does not bode well for the deal seekers out there and by this time next year I'm guessing there will be faster and or equal parts floating around at the same or lesser price points anyway. An x4 955 at $120 is about as good as its going to get until you start seeing deals on used parts pop up on the trade sites.
