Well, at least we know those speeds are possible without an exotic chiller 😛 120 watts more power consumption at the wall over the overclocked 1060 is pretty substantial though. Still, when even the overclocked 590 system was running <400 Watts from the wall, it's all got to be taken in context. If I gamed 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, the difference would cost me less than $1 a month. The difference to cool that extra heat load, would definitely vary, but even doubling the effective energy required to pump that heat outside using Central A/C, it would be less than $3 a month to entirely free if you're heating your home.

In term of Cooler , Different between XFX & PowerColor is huge. 80'c vs 65'c , what the hell....

There might be some confusion as to the proper or default configuration set by XFX. Therefore, we are left with a bit of confusion. XFX claims the Fatboy should be shipping in the "Performance" BIOS option with the switch closest to the PCie connectors, which ours was. However, it seems it is actually shipping in the "Quiet" BIOS position by default, despite the position of the switch to the "right" "toward the PCIe connectors" supposedly being the Performance Mode. Switching it around improved thermals for us. Normally we would think it was just our card that was set this way, but it appears all review cards are in this same BIOS position and replicate this same GPU temperature.

hmm, so all XFX cards are shipping in Quiet BIOS mode.

I'm surprised at this and wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be false due to misunderstanding. I'm wouldn't think AMD needs a second source because I wouldn't expect AMD to sell that many of the RX 590's. The 580/1060's have been out for a while and I would think the market for new midrange cards is small, at least until they come out with a new architecture.

As I understand it the 590 is identical to the 480 - same mask, same process size. That process is something that GF and Samsung made together. Despite the fact they've changed the names it is still that 14nm process, just with some efficiency improvements, so you can still use that same 480 mask on both of them. Hence AMD can use either with no extra work required. That's why the 590 is a bit disappointing - it is a 480 with 2 years of process efficiency improvements and the power knob dialled up to 11.

What im saying is that if you lower the performance of the RX 590 to the level of the GTX1060, then perf/watt is going up significantly.

But it will still be hotter and more expensive than the 1060.

You forgot to mention the OC'ed Fatboy drew 130W more power than the 1060. I wonder why you omitted that? (Rhetorical - we all know your agenda)

I wonder if that's Nvidia's response to RX 590, them just trying to clear inventory, Thanksgiving specials, or all of the above. Either way it's a decent deal.

Well, maybe they need to free some fab capacity at GF to make rome io dies. But if that is the case, we probably won't see any refreshed vega 12nm.
A hypotetical 12nm vega with 1700Mhz+ boost clocks and those fancy 1000Mhz HBM2 would perform quite well i think..

Ahhh, the infamous "up to" metric. I averaged all those games at 1080 p, and stock, the average FPS for the 590 was 74, and the average for the 1060 was 66. Do you think in a blind test you could tell the difference for that extra hundred watts. And BTW, no way in hell would I run a 590 on a 430 watt PSU as you suggested in your previous reply to my earlier post.

Wow really? It couldn't possibly be that the GTX 1070 is closer in price to the rx 590 than either of the cards you mention which puts it in direct competition with it?
Vega 64 is $70 more expensive, and RX 580 is $100 less and substantially slower than a GTX 1070. They aren't even in the same realm performance wise.

The RX 580 vs RX 590 is a great comparison that shows exactly what kind of ripoff an RX 590 is tho. Thanks for pointing out that comparison, $100 less for a card that is 6% slower and I'd more than happily suggest the RX 580 over the RX 590 to anyone.

It seems not especially - there's a ton of old Pascal (over)stock to clear & so it makes sense to run as things are.

Could maybe also explain why AMD aren't doing a 560/70 refresh on 12nm quite yet?

You can get a GTX 1060 6Gb for $199 after MIR with Monster Hunter World now. I'm happy that AMD decided to release this card, even if the only thing its good for is to drive prices down of cards that have been long overdue for a price drop. I think we will continue to see price drops of all mid-ranged cards, because they have been overpriced for some time now.

You clearly have a severe lack of understanding displays and the fact humans response time is irrelevant as it's more or less the same for everyone. If I see my opponent 5ms before he sees me because of my better displays I will win the fight. the 250ms reaction time is equal for both so the person that can react first, wins.

About the display tech I always use the test-ufo moving map test:

Simply said with my screen I can read the street names on the moving map. Just foregt that on any 60 hz screen. And yeah blur matters in gaming.

Find your brain. If your response to visual stimuli is 250ms, @60hz refresh rate, it will take you 250ms+16ms to form a response. @120hz refresh rate, it's 250ms+8ms. Also factoring in the time it takes for the network packet to traverse from your computer to the back-end server. Sorry bud, your'e the bottle neck, not the silly hardware you toss your money at. If you see your opponent 5ms before he sees you, it's more likely that network latency will be the deciding factor (whose closest to the server). Furthermore, youth wins out to as your biological clock is likely to add 5ms to your physical response over someone whose younger.
